I went to the Citi Trends in Bryan on Tuesday, 2/3/26, to make a return. The cashier at checkout remembered me from a previous purchase. When she printed the receipt, the paper came out incorrectly. She explained that she was new and asked another associate how to reprint the receipt. She was told it would be fine since the barcode was still visible.
Not wanting to hold up the line, she politely asked if she could help the two customers behind me while she figured it out. As she was checking out the second customer, the General Manager walked in and the new employee asked her about the situation. The cashier calmly and respectfully explained what happened. The GM responded rudely, saying “no,” yet then repeated exactly what the cashier had already explained, just in her own words.
The GM then looked at the register, noticed clothing placed nearby, and asked—again rudely—what happened to the receipt paper. The cashier kindly explained that she used it because there was a line and she didn’t want customers waiting while she walked to the back for more. She stated she planned to replace it once the line was gone. Despite this, with a line of customers waiting, the GM walked away and said, “If you clean off my register, I can help.”
As someone who has been a store manager for 10 years and a general manager for 5 years, I believe she should have simply stepped in and assisted rather than embarrassing a new employee in front of customers. As I was leaving, I looked back and saw the GM and another associate talking while this new cashier continued working the line alone after being publicly reprimanded.
That is not good leadership, nor is it a good example for a team. I commend the cashier for keeping her composure and professionalism, and I truly hope she goes far in this industry. Unfortunately, as a regular shopper, this experience made me not want to return to this location. I would rather travel to another Citi Trends.

I asked the cashier to open up a packaged outfit to make sure the correct item was inside. She said it should be since it was closed. I got all the way to my photoshoot and opened a large bodysuit that was sold as a small.
