  Really appreciate the help I received at Nordstrom Rack from Anthony today. I realized my phone was missing in the store and got pretty worried. One of the female employees helped me out and found Anthony, who then checked the security camera. He figured out that my phone had just slid under the jewelry rack, and was able to pull the rack aside and get it back for me. I’m very grateful for their help—thank you for taking the time to help me track it down!

  I normally try my best not to leave negative reviews about customer service because I understand that employees have rules and policies they need to follow. However, this was probably one of the most confusing encounters I’ve ever had at a store. I recently purchased an eyeshadow from Nordstrom through an online order. When it arrived and I saw it in person, it looked completely different from the sample online, so I decided to return it. There’s a Nordstrom Rack only about 5 minutes away from me, while the Nordstrom store is located in a busy outdoor mall about 10 minutes away. When I processed the return online, it told me I could return the item to a Nordstrom Rack, and the location I usually go to was listed as an eligible return location. I finally found time to go this evening. When it was my turn, I told the cashier I was trying to return an item. She looked at it and said, “Makeup items cannot be returned.” I was confused and explained that I had received a return code that said I could return it. She then told me that makeup purchased from Nordstrom needs to be returned to Nordstrom because they have to do a quality check. I explained that the store locator showed this location as an eligible return spot. That’s when things got even more confusing. She said, “Technically, yes, you can return it here, but they usually need to check the makeup themselves to make sure it hasn’t been used.” I told her that I hadn’t used the makeup at all. She gave me a concerned, almost suspicious look, which made me panic a bit, so I added that she could open it and check if needed. At that point, it was clear she was done with me. She then told me I would need to return it to Nordstrom, giving me a pretty passive-aggressive smile. By then, it was late, I was tired, and I felt extremely embarrassed, especially with a whole line behind me. She apologized, and I said it was fine and mentioned again that I was just confused because the website said I could return it at Nordstrom Rack, then left. Once I got home, still embarrassed and frustrated, I checked the information using Nordstrom’s AI customer service. I gave it my order number and asked if the item was eligible for return, and it said yes. I then asked if it could be returned at a Nordstrom Rack... it said yes again. When I explained that the cashier denied the return, the AI responded that certain items cannot be returned and that I should go to a Nordstrom. That was the breaking point for me. I asked why it said the eyeshadow was eligible for return at a Rack in the first place, and it just apologized and repeated that certain items cannot be returned at Nordstrom Rack. The misleading information from Nordstrom and the confusing, uncomfortable interaction at the store completely drained me. If the website had clearly told me to return it to the original store, I would have done that from the start. Instead, I wasted my evening and energy going to a Nordstrom Rack that ultimately wouldn’t accept the return, even though they “technically could” (I’m still confused about that part). This was a long review, but that experience really discouraged me from wanting to step foot in that store again because I'm now anxious about being judged if she remembers me. If you have a return to make, you might want to triple-check everything beforehand.
