Overlooking downtown Austin and easily accessible to some of the best attractions including Zilker Park, the recently renovated Barton Creek Square is the city's largest indoor shopping center and top shopping destination for families.
Sistine Chapel exhibition was very enjoyable. Staff very friendly and informative. Actual Chapel Photographs were great but they changed too often and it was a bit overwhelming trying to take them all in. The ceiling should be a bit higher for viewing.

Barton Creek Mall should not exist in its current form - full stop. Siting or expanding a project like this near the recharge zone of the Edwards Aquifer is a direct threat to one of Austin’s most critical natural resources.
This isn’t a marginal tradeoff. More pavement and density mean more polluted runoff and less natural filtration before water enters a highly permeable karst system. Once contaminants get in, they move quickly and are extremely difficult to remove. The consequences show up downstream in places like Barton Springs Pool - a defining public asset that depends on clean aquifer water.
Austin has already been through this. “The Unforeseen” documented the long fight over development on sensitive land and the lasting damage that can follow. Allowing this site to exist anyway isn’t forward-thinking - it’s willfully repeating known mistakes.
The right choice here is not mitigation at the margins. It’s to stop and remove the risk entirely. This mall should be scaled back dramatically or scrapped. Anything less ignores the science, the history, and the long-term costs to the city’s water and identity.

I had the chance to visit the Sistine Chapel experience in Austin, TX, and it was incredible. The way they brought the artwork to life up close was amazing you can really appreciate the detail and beauty in a way you normally wouldn’t. It felt immersive, peaceful, and truly inspiring. Definitely worth seeing if it comes to your city!

Loads of shuttered business, GIANT cement parking lot that’s 10x what it needs to be and destroyed a ton of the greenbelt. Most stores are selling tacky overpriced junk. This type of mall was all the rage in the 2000s but now it’s a relic of the past and just an eyesore. Needs a major overhaul

Spend some time at Barton Creek Square and it was a solid shopping trip. The mall has a good mix of store, so it's easy to find what you're looking for without going all over the place. The vibe is comfortable and not too hectic, which makes it nice to just walk around. It's a good spot to go with friends or even spend a relaxed afternoon. I'd definitely come back again!
