The vision of our 501(c3) nonprofit organization is that ALL people have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential through the power of work.Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee is based in Nashville, Tenn. The agency serves 48 counties throughout Middle and West Tennessee, operating 30 retail stores and two outlet stores, about 53 Donation Express Centers and 13 Career Solutions Centers. The nonprofit is one of Tennessee’s largest employers of people with disabilities with more than 45 percent of our workforce reporting some type of disability or disadvantage. Although affiliated with Goodwill Industries International in Rockville, Md., we operate independently through our own governing board of directors. Goodwill accepts gently-used items that donors no longer want, need or use. Those items are sold either in our retail stores or online at onlinegoodwill.com. Revenue from the sale of donated goods helps fund job training services and programs provided by Goodwill Career Solutions. In addition to retail sales, Goodwill depends on several other revenue sources, including state and local grants.

- HHHannah HortonFeb 18, 20262.0I come to this goodwill a lot and have never had an issue but today was different. I had found a coffee table I was going to buy. It was pretty small so I was able to fit it in my cart. The tag on the coffee table said “if you need assistance ask any available associate” and I did not need any assistance so I just put it in my cart and went to check out. Upon getting to the check out the cashier very rudely told me I couldn’t take it out of the store in the cart and that I needed to put it back where I found it and get an associate to take it out the donation door for me. After I told her it was really okay I didn’t need help she again rudely told me it was policy and I was gonna get her in trouble if I took it out in my cart. So after paying I went to bring it back to the home section like she told me and again was then rudely told to just leave it at the front. It was all kind of embarrassing as there were people in line behind me and made me wish I hadn’t even bought the coffee table. I’ve shopped here several times and taken furniture items out in a cart so had no idea this was a “policy.”
