I just left Academy Sports in Collierville. I’ve shopped here on a regular basis since the time they opened this store. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at this specific location over the years. Today I placed an order for two of the same items (large hunting storage bins) from the store while I was at the store. Not important, but I did that because of a specific payment option that is available online only. Obviously, when I placed the order it immediately sent me an email for confirmation where normally they will call you for pickup. Email said it would be ready in an hour. So, I wakes up to customer service where the short white lady with the north eastern accent was talking to a non white lady. I was standing behind them watching through the glass at customer service trying to get their attention. They were looking at their cell phones and laughing. Probably nothing business related. I walked to the front side so they could see me and waved at them. Short lady came out. I explained to her that I placed an order online and can I just pick it up while I’m currently there. She said no, that it’s not Kroger or some other retailer name I couldn’t make out because of her accent. I explained to her there was only two left and I need two and if for some reason a customer picked one up and purchased it, it would compromise the order and they could not fulfill it. I explained I was just trying to help them out. She said THAT I COULD GO GET IT MYSELF, like I’m on their payroll and carry it up to the content and sit it there and they would text me when it’s ready. So I walked back to the hunting department grabbed two big bins and carried them back up to CUSTOMER SERVICE, hence the name, and place them on the floor. Then went to check out and paid for another item. Now keep in mind, the store is empty. There was one person in line also buying turkey hunting stuff. The short lady struck up a conversation with him, because she didn’t have time to take care of my order. Too busy on the cell phone laughing I guess. The entire time from the moment I walked up to customer service till the time I left, she shouted at me at me as we spoke. She was extremely rude. And I took her accent in consideration as she continued to do this. I carried my own order to the front, I presented the confirmation number to them, which they had no interest in looking at. As I was walking out the door the non white lady said, “see you in an hour.” The date was 4-9-2025 around 1:00 pm on the front end. If anyone chooses to view security footage. Extremely poor customer service. I won’t give this location $1 more dollar. Both employees, which I assume are “managers” needs to quickly be replaced and or reprimanded. I would for a small business retailer in the Memphis area. Online competitors are our greatest competition. We’re we win is giving outstanding customer service even though we can’t compete with online pricing. Because of this we have managed to stay in business since 1952. And with the service we provide we will continue to be in business in 2052. The customer service these two Academy Sports employees provided was completely unacceptable. I can buy these exact same items on Amazon. Great company, bad employees. FIX IT!

It’s a Sunday morning, I’m free of the wife and kids for the day and have nothing to do. I decide to go to my local academy to look and see if they have anything I may want to buy. I’ve been shopping at this location for years and have spent only god knows how much money there. I’ve bought everything from guns and ammo to fishing tackle and lures. I even bought some expensive kayaks for my daughters there a couple summers ago. Anyways, I was looking for more 20 gauge buckshot for my sons single shot and they didn’t have any, so I went over to where the gun cases are to see if they have any that would fit one of my longer rifles I’ve recently gotten. That’s when I realized I was being followed by several middle aged men that worked there. I decided to go to random isles and see if I was still being followed and sure enough, they were darting in and out around me the entire time. I made eye contact with several of them and that didn’t seem to help. Finally one of the employee pops out of nowhere and asks if he can help me find anything, I told him no, I am fine. I quit being able to just leisurely walk around and look for anything without being distracted by the suspicious staff. I went ahead and left without buying anything due to the aggravation. I don’t appreciate the random suspicion from the staff. I’ve never shoplifted anything before in my life. I don’t even remotely look like a criminal or a suspicious person. They need to cool it with the following folks around wanting to shop, if someone notices they’re being followed it’s highly distracting and ruins the chances of the customer spending any money with that business. It was just very weird. The Olive Branch location has never done that to me before. I’m not sure if the Collierville location has a experienced a rise in shoplifting or what but it still doesn’t excuse the staff being so strange about a 36 year old man who clearly looks like a hunter and a fisherman looking at hunting and fishing stuff.
