Had outstanding service from a young man in the men’s shoe department today. First name was Isaac and his last name was Long and hyphenated so I’m sorry I can’t be specific but I bet the store manager will be able to figure that out. Isaac was friendly, competent, and knowledgeable. Thank you for the great experience, Isaac!

This review is specifically for the incredibly knowledgeable young man working in the shoe department of the Sioux Falls store on the afternoon of Dec. 21. He dropped wild amounts of knowledge about all the shoe options and how they would work with certain foot/ankle issues, was attentive to customers, straightforward and honest. We ended up buying online because they were out of my size in store, but wanted to give shoe dude a shout out. Wish I would have gotten his name to give a proper one. It’s rare these days to meet someone doing customer service so well - he deserves a raise and/or a promotion!

My background-21 years Marine Corps (retired), 65 y/o now after retired (again) from manufacturing industry as quality engineer. I did some shopping online for a pair of running shoes and found a few pairs that I wanted to try on/purchase. I was very careful to make sure that I was at the Sioux Falls Scheel's website and that I had selected "available at store".
I preface this review with all of that because the young man who helped me (and I use that phrase with hesitance) referred to me as a 'website warrior'; this after checking his inventory for me for a pair of shoes that I had researched (before driving 100 miles to get to the store) only to tell me that they weren't in stock. I showed him the screenshot of the shoes from the website showing that they were listed as in stock and that's when I got the 'website warrior' thrown in my face as he suggested an apparent lack intelligence of people (maybe my age???) trying to successfully navigate the Scheels' website to accurately determine whether or not the item being requested was in stock at the store. It's not rocket science to get around the Scheels website. It's actually pretty intuitive. But, hey, the shoes I selected might have been sold since the store opened this morning (I'm thinking) and so I asked about the next pair and I got the same response, "There aren't any in stock." That's when I told the sales associate that my wife and I had driven from Watertown after careful review of the website and that I was a bit disappointed that I was striking out for a second time with my shoe choice. He said that his inventory list was usually correct, but that he would check in the back.
And guess what???
The shoes that I'd told him were there, were actually there. The shoes were great and I purchased them.
But...
I won't bother shopping for shoes again at Scheels after this experience. "No biggy", you could be saying. Except that my wife and I are very active "old" people who typically purchase more than a dozen pairs of shoes a year.
The Scheels in Sioux Falls is a great store. We will probably continue to purchase our golf and hiking equipment from them in the future, but this experience has tarnished an otherwise shining example of how a brick and mortar business can succeed.
With annual retail purchases of more than 16% being made online by consumers (and continuing to rise) there is an increasing need for care and consideration to be given in the interactions between sales personnel and customers. Customer service is the only significant difference between shopping online and running down to the store (even it's 100 miles away). People enjoy being assisted in making the right choices when money seems to be losing its buying power. Employees need to be trained. Stocking levels need to be accurate, both on the devices being used by sales associates and on the website. Otherwise, Amazon wins. I don't want that. I'm sure that you don't want that either.
With my sincere wishes for your success...

I had a great experience with Scheels customer service. My local Scheels didn’t have my size in the coat I wanted, so I called the Sioux Falls Scheels and was helped right away. They arranged to ship the coat the very next day, which I truly appreciated.
When the package showed as delivered to a “box” but never arrived at my mailbox, I contacted Sioux Falls Scheels and spoke with Jennifer C. She immediately took ownership of the situation and went above and beyond to resolve it. Jennifer contacted another Scheels location and was able to have a replacement coat shipped out right away.
Her customer service was exceptional—professional, kind, and efficient. Jennifer C. is truly an asset to the Scheels team. Thank you, Jennifer, for turning a stressful situation into a positive experience.
