While the store felt different upon entry, the level of customer service—particularly in the shoe department—was lacking. I walked through the shoe department again searching for the BZees brand and did not see it displayed. Staffing in this department was minimal and no one proactively offered assistance. I then went to the cashier desk and stood in line. There was one cashier working. Another staff member was nearby putting out sale signs and could clearly see me standing and waiting. A third staff member approached the cashier, noticed me standing there, and stated that someone would be right with me. While I was still waiting, a white female customer approached behind me and asked if I was checking out. I told her I was waiting in line to ask a question. She then proceeded to step ahead of me and directly asked the third staff member for assistance. Despite seeing me waiting first, the third staff member immediately assisted her, completely bypassing me, without acknowledging that I was next or asking her to wait. The situation was handled as though my presence did not matter and as though the other person who was white was more important than mine. This is how I felt. This interaction was inappropriate and unacceptable. At that point, feeling disregard I got out of line and told my husband I want to leave and not shop here at all. I explained the situation to him and we exited this store. I refuse to be present anywhere I am not treated respectfully, fair or to spend my time or money in any business where I am not not treated respectfully and fairly.
