- RBRachel B.Feb 14, 20263.0generally pleased with smart start as they seem to be one of the more affordable options. however, i am disappointed with their customer service and sales team. it is hard to get ahold of someone. when you do, they transfer you a million times. when i enrolled with smart start i was told my first month of fees would be waived, if i signed up before 12/31, which i did. when i had the device installed, i called to confirm this promotion would be applied. the man who helped me was very nice but said there was nothing he could do since i was not provided a code. he would have to elevate to management. i am sure no one will get back to me bc no one responds to emails. it’s upsetting bc they should be aware of what their sales people are promising over the phone. if they are not going to follow through then shame on them! it should be documented properly as they record your phone calls! please note this does not reflect on the place i went to have the device installed. they were great and very knowledgeable. this solely applies to the vendor smart start.

What do I need to bring to my installation?

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
