I was treated like a criminal And discriminated because I’m visually impaired. Shame on you Bass Pro shop! Even more reason not to shop at Your stores into shop locally owned businesses. I’m visually impaired and have other disabilities. I was purchasing a firearm that requires a background check. I ask the associates several times for a paper form to fill out and was denied. They stated they do not have paper forms and all backgrounds must be completed on their computer. I’m was not able to see the screen correctly and kept telling them. Asking what it says and being denied a person to read the documents. I accidentally hit the wrong bubble. I was immediately treated like a criminal who shouldn’t be there. I told the Associate that I had issues reading the form, wouldn’t even acknowledge me standing there. He even rolled his eyes at me. I informed the other associate I had issues reading the questions. I know the answers to them all, but I couldn’t get the dots the lineup. While asking him for help, he says I cannot assist you. I totally understand you can’t assist me. Answer the question, but can you read Me the question? Denied again. Still being treated like a criminal they denied me my second amendment, right And I was discriminated against for being visually impaired. For Cabela’s Bass Pro shop to be the world’s foremost outfitter they sure didn’t know how to take care of a simple request. By law, they are required to have paper forms And or a script assistant. The law is as follows; Your Rights and the ATF Form 4473 Accommodations for Visual Impairment: Federal law does not prohibit a person from purchasing or possessing a firearm solely because of a visual impairment. Assisted Form Completion: If a buyer is unable to read or write, an ATF regulation allows another person (excluding the seller/licensee or their employees) to write the answers on the form. Two disinterested witnesses must then sign the form as witnesses to your answers and signature. Right to a Paper Form: Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) are required to retain all Forms 4473 and can use either paper or an ATF-approved electronic format. They are required to have paper forms available and cannot mandate online completion exclusively, especially when it hinders a legal transaction. The FFL must provide a means for you to complete the required form. Steps You Can Take: Contact the FFL Again: Inform the FFL dealer of the specific ATF regulation that allows for assistance in filling out the paper Form 4473 by a third party if the buyer is unable to read or write due to a physical disability. Bring a Witness: When you return, bring a person not involved in the transaction (e.g., a friend or family member, not an FFL employee) who can assist you in completing the paper form and act as one of the two required witnesses. Obtain the Form Yourself: You can download and print the official ATF Form 4473 directly from the ATF website and bring it with you, ensuring you have the current version (August 2023 revision or later). Report the Incident: If the FFL continues to refuse a reasonable accommodation, you can report the incident to the ATF.
