My parents (rest their souls) shopped here for years. I have had a charge account with JCP @ Valley River Center in Eugene, Oregon, since 1990 and have always been loyal to this store-though there are MANY other choices out there.
I spend A LOT of money here, especially at Christmas time. I am a disabled veteran and my $ it’s just as hard to come by as anyone else’s.
There is a manager who has been a huge help to me who has been kind, skilled, professional, accommodating, friendly and respectful, and I really wish I could remember her name right now because this has nothing to do with her.
There is also an assistant manager I feel the same about, Jeremy. These 2 along with most of the ladies that work at the JCP pick up/return counter
are wonderful, and I have appreciated them and all of their hard work, especially during the holidays.
That being said this particular store has just lost my business after all of these years. It’s obvious to me that they could care less on what it means to have GENERATIONS of loyal customers-in my case my grandmother, my parents, and myself…for 36 years now!
I went in this evening for a pick up order & some returns. The lady that helped me with both of those at the JCP.com counter was awesome-she always is! I drive 35 minutes to get here and arrived at 7:24PM-THIRTY SIX minutes before closing! I needed to use the restroom pretty bad but opted to do my pick up & returns 1st, but stressed over the fact that this store closes their bathroom early! (Is this even legal with patrons with disabilities??)
I made it to the bathroom and was back out in the intimates section and looked at my phone…it was 7:40PM. I wanted to look at one item…a woman spoke from a distance away and I almost screamed it scared me so bad. She asked “can I hope you find something?” To which I replied, “no thank you I know exactly what I’m looking for“ to which she then replied, “well we’re closing up here now!” I said “but it’s 7:40 and you’re open til 8” she said “not upstairs” and promptly got on her handheld radio and said “I have one customer still upstairs“ …as if the bathroom closing early weren’t bad enough! In all the years I’ve been coming here I’ve never been told this.
She followed me to make sure I left, never once offering a kind word, an apology, nothing. Just atraight to the point and not a thing friendly about her! As I was walking away she said, “ you may have to take the elevator because the escalator is probably closed“ Turns out it wasn’t, at least to go back down anyway.
I went down and saw a man with a name tag, so I asked him if he was the manager, and he shook his head yes. Brock is his name I believe. I tried to speak with him about my experience this evening and he could’ve cared less, he didn’t even make eye contact with me, he just kept hanging things on racks. I’m not sure what has happened in this store but other than the people I mentioned early on, the customer service is in the toilet. It’s completely rare to have a store employee even look at you let alone speak to you. This is not the Oregon way this is not what I’m used to and I know my parents would have canceled their account here if they were treated the same way! This was beyond disrespectful and I won’t tolerate it!
Extremely disappointing, and extremely disturbing.
