  After visiting several chain jewelry stores, we stopped by Thom Duma Fine Jewelers and had the good fortune to meet with Karl Schmidt. While our experiences at the chain stores weren’t bad, speaking with Karl was an entirely different experience. His depth of knowledge - rings, diamonds, settings, overall look and fit - was invaluable. Karl spent generous time over multiple visits, walking us through engagement ring, diamond, and wedding ring options, showing us thoughtful combinations without ever pressuring us. Working with a smaller, family-owned jeweler felt worlds apart from the chain-store approach. Thanks to Karl’s guidance, we found the rings we truly wanted, all while staying within our budget. After such a positive experience, I doubt we’ll ever return to a chain jewelry store. Thank you, Karl! Michele and Jim

  What a wonderful experience we had going to Thom Duma’s. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by everyone and was helped immediately. Karl was amazing so knowledgeable and helpful . He went above and beyond from a jewelry sizing to offering advice on band choices. Picking up the ring was equally a pleasant experience. We can’t wait to make future purchases there. They were all wonderful!!👍

  Karl and everyone in shop were absolutely wonderful to work with. I walked in late in the day just prior to closing and he was very patient and helped me find a wonderful birthday gift for my daughter!!!! Thank you again Karl!!!!

  I’m leaving this review solely for the online ordering process—sharing in case it helps anyone else thinking of buying from this jeweler online. I’d been hunting retailers for a discontinued wedding band and finally found it in many colors/sizes on Thom Duma’s website. I was skeptical—few retailers still carry it (let alone multiple options), and most don’t offer shipping—but after verifying the store’s legitimacy and reputation, I decided to place the order. My payment went through smoothly. The next day, I received an email from Tom, the President of the company, asking for a copy of my payment card and two forms of ID. As a financial auditor, I understand the intricacies of why businesses verify high-value online orders. I sent the info later that night, then immediately panicked—it could be legit, but also a perfect setup for identity theft. I received a quick response from Tom—this was around at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night which felt... off. He completely disregarded my request for a phone number to verify legitimacy. The email domain and encryption looked genuine, and two staff were cc’d, so I decided to call the store once it opened Tuesday (and locked my debit card in the meantime). Thankfully, I reached the inventory manager who confirmed the request was legitimate. However, that call (on top of everything else) is what prompted this review. When I asked if the ID request was standard and expressed my concerns, the manager became defensive, saying, “We haven’t been in business for 50 years by scamming people!” I clarified that I wasn’t questioning the business itself—just suggesting there might be a safer or clearer way to handle verification. Instead of being open to feedback, she got combative. She then told me their website doesn’t show live inventory for most brands—meaning they took my $1,300 payment and sensitive info for an item that likely wasn’t even in stock. (It wasn't) That, to me, is a serious process issue. It’s risky for them and unsettling for the customer. And she began questioning why I’d even placed the order from out of state, which felt unrelated and completely uncalled for. At the time of writing this, it looks like Thom Duma has updated their website. The item pages now show a “Request More Information” form instead of allowing direct online checkout—which directly addresses the main issue I ran into. That’s an appreciated improvement and I've updated my rating accordingly. Bottom Line: They appear to have taken steps to improve their online ordering process, but communication and tone with customers—especially around sensitive information—could use serious work.
