Horrible customer service, no where in the store says a return has to be exact item. Cashier was rude from moment I walked to register. Kaylee or Callie was her name.

Hello,
Yesterday, I purchased a pair of pants for my son from American Eagle at Polaris Mall. Today around 2:30 pm, I went to the American Eagle on Dublin Granville Road to exchange it for a smaller size because it was too big. My son had tried it on and accidentally removed the tag.
When I asked for a return or exchange, the cashier (who introduced herself as the manager) told me that because the tag was removed, neither a return nor an exchange could be processed. I explained that I still had the receipt and could even bring the tag back, but she refused.
To be fair, the manager was polite and respectful with me during our conversation, which I appreciated. However, I believe it would have been much better if she had shown a little more flexibility in this situation.
This surprised me because most stores allow exchanges/returns with a receipt, and this was the first time I’ve been told that removing the tag makes an item ineligible. I felt stuck with an expensive pair of pants that doesn’t fit my son.
Afterward, I called the Polaris Mall location, and the associate there kindly told me they would accept the return/exchange even though the tag was removed. This understanding response made me feel valued as a customer. I wish the Dublin Granville Road store manager had shown the same flexibility.
I believe customers should be supported in situations like this, especially when we have proof of purchase. I wanted to share my experience and ask for clearer consistency between stores.

Love the selection. It was my first time here. I usually go to Easton but I was so excited to discover one closer. I’m a huge fan of the quality American Eagle clothing has.

Employees were very rude, I didn’t enjoy my shopping experience because of how unhelpful they were. I get it you don’t want to be at work, but you do not need to be unpleasant to everyone who walks in that door
