A nightmare of an experience that I still can’t believe. Customer determined to buy a watch and Watches of Switzerland doing their best to make it as difficult for him to buy a watch. Wild!!! Walked into Watches of Switzerland, 60 Greene Street, 4:30pm yesterday with hopes of buying a watch the same day, if it was in stock. The manager, using her computer, told me that it was at another location, I mentioned that I was willing to travel there and buy, if it was actually in the store. Meantime I wanted to see another watch in the showcase. She declined to show it to me, instead wanting to refer it to a sales rep to help me build a relationship, then said that I had to wait a few minutes, they were all busy. Then (I’m not making this up) suggested that I should first go to the other store, look at the watch I was interested in, THEN come back to the store I was at and make a decision. I replied that since I was already in the store it was easier for me if I saw a few watches and most likely might buy something immediately if I found it more interesting than the one at the other store. Once again I asked to see the watch in the showcase below me and she said I had to wait for a rep to be free. So I then pointed to an IWC Big Pilots Perpetual Calendar watch with a green dial in the showcase behind her, asked her the price. This tricked her into opening the showcase, letting me see the watch. Now I was almost closer to deciding what I wanted, gave her back the IWC, once again asked to see the watch in the showcase below me to compare. Once again she declined, again suggesting it was better to see the other watch at the other store as this would help me decide. I told her I can think for myself; I’m old enough to make decisions without needing to go to the other store, then come back. I needed to see the watch in the showcase since I was already in the store. Incredibly she still didn’t show me the watch, instead went to see if she could find me a rep, came back and said ‘unfortunately it’s going to be a bit longer as they are still busy’
So, after seeing two other people still waiting I decided to browse a bit, went into the Rolex section, saw the Rolex GMT Master II Sprite green dial white gold, knew that even though it was just a display piece, I could buy the IWC Big Pilots perpetual green dial, put myself on a list for the Rolex Sprite white gold green dial.
Finally after still waiting even longer, watching her busy on her phone texting I realized that I was not getting anywhere. She looked up, saw me waiting by the door (I was about to walk out) and said ‘Sure I cant get you anything to drink, some water maybe?’ And that’s when I explained to her that I wasn’t there for water, I was there to buy a watch and she was simply not helping me and instead putting roadblocks in my way.
Let me explain something: customers are NOT stupid. This is the holiday season and we want to come to the store, see the item, feel the item, pay and leave. I actually had to take down a 5 star review for this place (see photos) and write this review which I didn’t want to do but there was no other way. Even now I can’t believe I left without buying a watch because Watches of Switzerland made it incredibly difficult to do so. No one wants a shopping experience like this, believe me. In her defense I will say this: she was never mean or nasty. On the contrary. She was very friendly but totally clueless as to how things work with customer service. I’m honestly not trying to get her in trouble because she has a great personality and is very welcoming. However customer service is an entirely different thing. Just walk into any Breitling Store or Bucherer Time Machine or even Watchfinder and you will see just how fast they will show you a timepiece and how ACCOMMODATING they are to a guest’s request. They are at the top of their game.
Show the watch, make the sale, don’t keep us waiting F O R E V E R !!!!!! This is the busy holiday season.
