We went to exchange a Christmas gift with the gift receipt and was charged extra because the price went up since the gift was purchased. I have never heard of this in my life, absolutely ridiculous and totally defeats the purpose of the gift receipt. Definitely would not return or ever recommend to anyone.

I was able to find a few things I needed without too much trouble, and the prices were reasonable, especially with the constant sales and coupons JCPenney is known for. They really do offer good value when you catch the right deals. The downside was the customer service. It wasn’t rude or anything, just inconsistent. Some employees were helpful, but others seemed overwhelmed or not very interested in assisting. At one point I waited at the register for a bit before anyone came over, even though the store wasn’t extremely busy. It’s small stuff like that that adds up and affects the overall experience. The fitting rooms could also be better maintained — a few had clothes left behind or weren’t as tidy as they should be. Not a major issue, but noticeable. Overall, JCPenney in Middletown is a decent place to shop if you’re looking for basics, sales, or quick items. It’s reliable enough, but there’s room for improvement in customer service and upkeep. A solid 3-star visit.
