I recently visited Cabela’s to use a gift card. The store itself was okay — not one of the best locations I’ve been to, but acceptable for New York. I did find an item I liked and proceeded to checkout. While waiting in line, everything seemed fine. When I stepped up to the register, the cashier initially was pleasant and asked if I was military. I replied that I am retired public safety, as they often ask about military or public safety status. At that point, her demeanor changed noticeably. She became impatient and told me to hurry up while I was trying to determine how much to donate in order to clear out the remaining balance on my gift card. Her frustration was obvious, so instead of finishing the full amount, I donated only one dollar just to complete the transaction and leave. My concern is this: why ask customers if they are military or public safety, then display an attitude when they answer honestly? Western New York has always been known as a friendly area, but unfortunately that wasn’t my experience during this visit. I only return to New York occasionally, and experiences like this make it less welcoming.

Although the location is great, the staff are knowledgeable there are tons of product here. The problem is just the costs are up there. The country has gone crazy on costs for everything Cabelas is no different.

Great for winter outdoor apparel. Everything well stocked when it is still cold versus other stores that are already changing stock to swimsuits, sundresses, and shorts when I still need scarves, heated socks, and gloves. I appreciate they stay current to the season and environment we are experiencing!

They have a lot of great clothing and gear but I could never find an associate to help, last time I was looking for a worker for 15 minutes until I went to the front desk and waited another 10 minutes. I also once drove 40 minutes to purchase a ny compliant ar-15 magezine and when I was on line with 3 of them they couldn't sell it to me. Something about the store not being able to sell them. Ridiculous, I emailed to complain after driving for almost an hour for nothing. I even called to make sure tjey had them for sale and was told yes.
