Had a great experience last night at the location on West Dodge. Have been there many times before and have always had good experiences. Last night, an employee named Cason (spelling?) in the men’s shoe section, went above and beyond to locate a pair of shoes in my size in their basement (literally). He was dead-set on finding them as he was convinced that he knew they had the shoes in my size. After many minutes of
searching, digging, and whatever else he had to do to find them, he returned with a smile and the shoes. His attitude and effort were truly outstanding!

Integrity Crisis: Management Publicly Admits to "Arbitrary" Standards.
I am sharing this to warn other consumers about the bad-faith tactics I experienced at Scheels. After providing my personal data for a price match, I was met with a documented lie regarding their policy and the BBB status of a competitor (Image 1). When caught in that lie, the agent shifted to saying the store wasn't authorized "in our eyes" (Image 2).
Most tellingly, when confronted, Scheels management (Alex) publicly admitted that while they claim to use "discretion," those standards were actually applied in a way that was "arbitrary or contradictory" (See Image 3). When a company’s own leadership admits their process is contradictory, it is a clear sign of a systemic integrity issue. They prioritize protecting margins over honest customer service. Think twice before trusting this brand with your data or your business.

I recently purchased a Colt .45 at Scheels for a milestone birthday. While I have the item now, the process was fraught with unnecessary friction and a surprising lack of professional courtesy for a $1,000 transaction.
Despite having used my current purchase permit at other local retailers twice over the last two years without issue, the staff here chose to fixate on a minor clerical signature. This is something that should have been flagged during the initial transaction on Sunday, rather than waiting until I arrived for pickup to make it an issue. This lack of foresight resulted in a frustrating, unnecessary trip to the Sheriff's office to resolve a technicality that other shops have correctly recognized as valid for years.
Adding to the frustration, I was charged a shipping fee just to have the item sent to the store. Charging shipping on a four-figure order that is being picked up on-site is an incredibly poor business practice that feels like nickel-and-diming the customer.
Furthermore, the sales process is overly complicated for cash buyers. Because the item was 'online stock,' I was directed to put $800 cash onto a gift card to facilitate the order. When the pickup hit a snag, I was told a refund would only go back to that gift card—effectively locking my money into their store due to an internal workaround I didn't ask for.
The salesperson was condescending throughout, making me feel like an inconvenience rather than a customer. I ultimately finished the purchase due to time constraints, but the experience was entirely beneath the standard I expected. For a smooth, respectful experience on a significant purchase, go elsewhere.
