Heard about this Goodwill by way of social media. Drove an hour to check it out. It is a rather large goodwill with a restaurant "inside". Although I managed to find some good pieces, I wasn't impressed

I’ve been coming to this Goodwill for a few years now, and it’s always been one of my favorite places to shop and unwind. Over that time, I’ve seen a lot of changes, especially with management. As a regular customer, you can’t help but notice when things shift. In the past, I did notice moments where the atmosphere didn’t always feel the most positive. There were times you could overhear employees speaking negatively about coworkers or management, and the environment sometimes felt tense. However, over the last several months, there has been a noticeable and refreshing change. The atmosphere in the store has become much more positive and welcoming. You see cashiers laughing and joking, team members coming through the doors smiling, and people genuinely seeming to enjoy their work. Even when managers come around, there’s a lightness—employees smile, laugh, and you can tell there’s a sense of comfort and teamwork that wasn’t as visible before. Anytime I’ve spoken with the store manager, Sherena, she has always been truly pleasant and approachable, which also makes a big difference in the overall experience. One manager in particular stands out to me. I’ve seen her in the store for over a year now, and in the beginning she often seemed stressed or not very approachable. But recently, she’s completely transformed. She’s laughing with her team, helping on the floor, stepping in wherever needed, and staying engaged with everyone. I believe her name is Misty. Today I saw her up front joking with a cashier while also directing the team, and it was clear the employees respect her. That kind of leadership makes a difference, and it shows. I’d also like to recognize some of the cashiers who consistently make visits enjoyable—Tish, Savannah, Ari, and another whose name starts with a “Q.” They are always friendly, smiling, and welcoming at checkout, and that goes a long way. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I felt this change deserved to be recognized. It’s clear there’s been a positive shift in both leadership and team morale, and it truly makes this store a pleasant place to visit every time I come in. Thank you to the managers and team members for creating such a welcoming environment. If I could give this store 10 stars I would for the change.

I used to enjoy Goodwill, but after last Saturday (April 10th), they got rid of the video game section. I was disappointed. There aren’t many local options for older games anymore. I don't want to shop online (like eBay) or other websites because I prefer to shop locally so I can find good games. So this change makes the store less appealing to me.

I visited the Goodwill in Rockingham today around lunchtime with my son and had a mixed experience. While checking out, it was clear the store had just introduced a new register system. The store manager, assistant manager, and other team members were all working together to learn it, and they handled the situation professionally by apologizing to customers for the delay. I appreciated their transparency and effort to keep things moving. However, I did have a concern regarding one of the cashiers (my receipt lists the name Arielle). While the assistant manager was kindly helping her with a discount issue and explaining that everyone was still learning the new system, the cashier responded with noticeable rudeness. After the assistant manager walked away, the cashier made a comment implying that the manager didn’t know what she was doing. I found this behavior to be disrespectful, especially in front of customers. The assistant manager remained calm, polite, and professional throughout the interaction, which made the cashier’s attitude stand out even more. I believe this is something that should be addressed, as it affects the overall customer experience. That said, I do want to recognize the management team for their patience and professionalism during what was clearly a challenging transition.

I was in town recently and decided to stop by this Goodwill after hearing mixed reviews. I was with my husband, our two teenage daughters, and my son. As we were shopping, I kept noticing a short red-haired employee moving quickly back and forth from the front of the store. She was constantly on the move—smiling, greeting customers, and checking in on her staff. At one point, my daughter asked her about a fitting room while standing near a mirror. The employee kindly explained that they didn’t have one and apologized, but she went above and beyond by helping my daughter zip up a dress she was trying on over her clothes. I stayed off to the side, watching, since my daughter usually doesn’t enjoy interacting with people—but to my surprise, she was comfortable and engaged in conversation. Afterward, my daughter came over and told me the woman helping her was the manager—she thought her name was Misty. She shared how kind and helpful she had been, even taking the time to explain the pros and cons of the dress and encouraging her, saying she would look very nice and professional in it. That meant so much to me, especially since my daughter doesn’t typically enjoy shopping. I later realized why the manager had been going to the front so often—she was assisting her employees. When we checked out, the cashier (Delisa) called her up to apply a discount, and she again took the time to talk with us, continuing to be warm and welcoming. She made us feel truly valued, especially after learning we were from out of town. My daughter talked about her the entire ride home and is already asking to go back next weekend. While we may have to wait a little while before returning, I would absolutely love to visit this store again and see that same manager. I understand that everyone has good days and bad days, but this manager clearly made the choice to go out of her way to create a positive experience for us. Because of her, I give this store a five-star rating and will definitely be recommending it to friends and family passing through the area.
