- JFJenn FrickmanJun 8, 20225.0I didn’t actually go to the appointment as I work a full time job. The tech was awesome and very helpful and knowledgeable. I would suggest to have some weekend hours for those of us who work M-F 9-5 and kinda depend on our jobs to pay our bills and pay for this service. It’s hard enough to deal with this inconvenience but to have to take time off of work to do so makes it much harder to deal with. I realize we put ourselves in this situation but a little give would be nice seeing as this costs us money every month, is also a HUGE inconvenience and we also have had to take time off for court dates, community service and other such theatric’s. It’s seriously about how much money they (not smart start) can get out of us. I appreciate this service as without it I won’t get my license back, but I also think it’s more of a monetary demand not necessarily a teaching moment. I know I did something wrong but a reminder every month and the loss of pay from my job to go every month for calibration seems a bit much. I can only imagine what happens when you can’t afford to pay the price every month. Good Luck to you all, hopefully we all make it out of this better people and not totally broke.

What do I need to bring to my installation?

What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?

Can someone else drive my car?
