- MMMARYJan 21, 20261.0I returned five items and only received a partial refund. Customer service claimed that a grey fleece sweatpant had pilling in the crotch area, which is not true, the item was never worn. What concerns me most is that this size was out of stock before my return, then suddenly showed as available after. Now I’m being told the item I returned is “damaged,” which raises serious concerns about how returns are handled. A pair of cargo jeans also ripped the first day I wore them, clearly a defect, yet they blamed me for “wear and tear.” Customer service was dismissive and insisted on damage that did not exist. I’ve spent a lot of money with this company and kept many items. This experience makes me question their quality control and return practices. Be very cautious ordering especially if you may need to make a return.

I recently tried to do an exchange and it was way over complicated and caused numerous other issues. One of my items was locked in as “in store exchange only” in the process and their mobile customer service refused to correct this error even though I explained multiple times that the manager did this without my consent and unintentionally. All of my other exchanges were put on a store gift card for some reason and I had to get a manager’s approval to return those items/get a refund to my original credit card later. Finally, the computers at the store crashed while I was trying to return one of these items and prevented my refund from going through. Mobile customer service eventually corrected this the third time I followed up. On the bright side and to this store’s credit, the employees and managers in the store were always helpful, polite and apologetic when things went wrong. Honestly the good customer service I had in this store is the only reason I will continue doing business with express in the future. The mobile customer service is horrendous though - it is very clear that if anything goes wrong, they will not help you. I will be taking an extended break from shopping with express because of this.
