Every time I go to the Woodbury location it seems like it gets worse and worse. I waited just under 20 minutes to even get acknowledged. They had 1 person working the counter and two other people that would show up and disappeared as fast as they showed up. It was so bad that 2 other people that were also waiting left. When the one worker got done with the customer that was making their purchase the worker walked up to another person that just walked up to that counter. I just got frustrated and left. I told someone on the way out and he made excuses they must be busy. It was 2 to 3 pm on a Tuesday not exactly the busiest time for Cabela's. This dept can't work with just one worker because they need someone to double check the paperwork for any purchases. It is getting to the point where I will have to drive across town and go to Scheels since the other Rogers location is probably just as bad as Woodbury. They can't build the Scheels in Blaine fast enough.

As a long term Cabela's customer I wanted to share a troubling experience shopping at the Woodbury retail store yesterday. My wife and I stopped to shop for a 3 in 1 waterfowl coat. Upon entering the store we were aggressively pursued about signing up for the Club card. Had to say no thanks several times to get the employee to back off. Then less that two minutes later we were approached by someone about signing up for Hilton Grand Vacations. I would say we were VERY aggressively approached and there was a HARD sell made ....to the point where we had to finally get a bit belligerent in telling them we were NOT interested and in fact had other shopping to do. We spent the next 30+ minutes looking for a 3 in 1 waterfowl coat. Had several questions but could find no employees anywhere near to help us. We decided to leave and stopped to use the rest rooms on the way out (men's and women's). Both bathrooms had non-functioning mechanical hand dryers and both were out of paper towels to dry our hands. Needless to say we will not be back to this store.

On February 27, 2026, at 7:27 PM, I waited patiently in line at Cabellas on Hudson road in Woodbury, mn - while my white boyfriend was immediately helped for his fishing license. After waiting three minutes—saying “hello” multiple times (im an Asian woman)—I was ignored by all six staff members (All white women and men). I didn’t yell. I didn’t demand. I simply left. Because no one chose to see me. I won’t return. No one deserves to be treated like invisible ink. Beware! The color of your skin MATTERS apparently at the store or I’d say with lately with trump in office: it’s not safe to be out and about if you’re a person of color. Ridiculous!

While I was in the gun library I saw an older heavy set employee with a white beard being rude and unsupportive of a younger employee who was expressing concerns that her current transaction may be a straw purchase. I found it incredibly inappropriate to be dismissive of the younger employees concerns, especially about something as legally important as potential straw purchases of firearms. On top of being dismissive of her concerns he choose to do this in front of other customers. When I walked away at least one other customer expressed his unsolicited opinion that the older employee was being a dick. Hopefully that younger employee knows she can work somewhere else if her more senior employees (supervisor?) is dismissive of her concerns. Especially when those concerns are about the purchase of handguns and compliance with laws around who can and cannot buy them.

This place isn’t just a store, it’s a cathedral for people who believe that civilization is something you occasionally escape, preferably with a rifle, a bow, or at least a cooler big enough to hide a body-sized brisket. You walk in and the air changes. It smells like leather, cedar, adrenaline, and the distant memory of rain on pine. Taxidermy greets you like stoic doormen — elk, bear, whitetail — posed as if to say, this could be you if you don’t buy the right gear. The gun counter is its own little nation; glass cases filled with steel and promise, clerks who talk about ballistics like sommeliers describing tannins. You learn about trigger travel, grain weights, and the poetry of clean shot placement. Nobody here is trying to sell you anything… they’re trying to convert you. Then there are the boots. Racks of them. Insulated, snake-proof, waterproof, all engineered for every environment from Texas mud to Alaskan regret. Try on a pair and suddenly you find yourself fantasizing about stalking hogs at dawn or hiking mountains you will absolutely never climb. The camping aisles are dangerous in the best way. Freeze-dried meals that swear they taste like bourbon-glazed beef, tents that could survive a biblical flood, knives so sharp they feel illegal. You don’t need half of it. You want all of it. But the gem is the aquarium and wildlife displays…kids staring wide-eyed, adults pretending they’re not impressed. A reminder that your primal side isn’t dead, it’s just indoors too often. Service here is surprisingly humble. The staff seems to actually use the gear they sell, and talk hunting stories, scouting spots, or the ethics of field dressing without sounding like caricatures. Five stars because Cabela’s isn’t retail, it’s escapism for people who secretly wish they lived closer to the edge. You leave lighter in the wallet, heavier with gear, and convinced you might actually survive outdoors if society collapses
