- AAangelfisherMar 28, 20264.0You can definitely tell money is being invested in the Southdale Center. It is livelier than it was when it had your middle class stores like GAP and LOFT in the past. It's well-appointed, very clean, and a pleasant place to mall-walk. There's a bit of an identity crisis going on. You've got your Montauk and your Dave & Busters. Or your Tiffany & Co and your Hennepin County Service Center. I guess that's sort of in line with Victor Gruen's original vision...? There isn't much left for a budget conscious shopper besides Macy's and the food court. My petty complaint is that even the near-dead Har Mar Mall keeps beautiful live plants; if Southdale is a place where you can buy a Rolex and Louis Vuitton bag, it ought not to have cheesy fake flowers.

It looks great but there are still quite a few vacant spots. Like most shopping malls, Southdale suffers because people choose the convenience of purchasing things online rather than in person. Still, this is a great place to meet friends and socialize (which most people do at coffee shops instead these days). I walk here regularly, shop, get lunch and sometimes buy groceries. Yes, there's a full grocery store here. Check the place out. It's well worth a visit.
