On Friday August 12, 2016 I entered the Vans store at the Columbia Mall, in Columbia, Maryland. As a dedicated Vans fan I visited this store in order to purchase six pairs of Vans sneakers for my upcoming wedding. After trying on the shoes, I asked the one and only representative to check the inventory for the additional five pairs. The salesman returned to say the store only had three of my six pairs of shoes. In asking how I could purchase the additional shoes the visit took a turn for the worse. The first salesman asked another store representative, who had been in the back, to discuss the matter with me. This representative was very curt with me and ultimately I believe was so unpleasant because I was trying to use a Friends and Family coupon on my purchase. This man, later identified as Alan R. solved the problem by saying he would provide a raincheck for my items at the sale price when the items came back into inventory. I was pleased with this resolve, however just a few moments after I purchased the three pairs of shoes this salesman said, “Can we have a human conversation now?” He continued to make a variety of rude comments including his disdain for my attempt at using the coupon and not taking his word that the raincheck would be extended. Above all, he identified himself as the manager of the store and suggested I go to another store to find the remaining three pairs of shoes. I would have hoped that my significant purchase of six pairs of shoes would have increased my overall experience at the store, but in fact I will certainly rethink my shoe store options the next time I need shoes.
