I recently visited Staples Jewelry after seeing on their website that they are a family-owned business with competitive gold pricing. I understand this isn’t Gold Coin Exchange or one of the major numismatic shops downtown, but the offer I received for my jewelry was still much lower than expected.
The employee who assisted me wasn’t very friendly, and her overall attitude felt off. She took a while to come over—likely because she was helping others—but even once she returned, the interaction felt rushed and unwelcoming. I work for a family-owned business myself, and we make it a priority to treat everyone equally and fairly, so the experience stood out in a negative way.
When I asked for a small 5% increase on the offer, she immediately said “no.” I didn’t argue; I simply thanked her and walked out.
I also browsed their fine jewelry. A lot of the pieces appear to be mass-produced designs priced extremely high, including GIA-certified diamonds—even though that market has been down for quite some time. Realistically, if someone ever tried to resell many of those pieces, they’d probably only get back around 20% or less of what they originally paid, making them poor investments in my opinion.
To be fair, the store itself is beautiful. It’s clean, the music is pleasant, and the displays are well presented. Unfortunately, the pricing and the customer service overshadowed those positives. If the employee’s attitude had been better, I might have accepted the offer despite the low amount.
Overall, it’s a nice-looking store, but my experience with the service and pricing left me disappointed.

Peggy and the rest of the crew at Staples Jewelry is absolutely amazing! She goes above and beyond to make every visit special. Her attention to detail, honesty, and genuine care for her customers really stand out. Whether it’s finding the perfect piece, helping with a repair, or creating something custom, Peggy makes the whole experience effortless and enjoyable. You can tell she truly loves what she does. I’ve never left disappointed — only more impressed every time. Highly recommend asking for Peggy or any of the wonderful jewlers here at Staples if you want top-notch service and beautiful jewelry! The BEST JEWELERS IN LOUISVILLE! 👏💍💕

I worked with Ella Staples. She helped me redesign my 91 year-old mother‘s ring. She was so helpful and understanding. She knew exactly what I was looking for. I could not be happier with the end result. She was so patient and kind. She is a true professional !!!

I had a great experience selling some antique jewelry a couple of weeks ago. I worked with Emily who was very knowledgeable, kind, and transparent. I felt they were honest and fair and I plan to return in the future.

I was in the store last week after being referred by a jeweler and some friends. I wanted to sell my Cartier Santos watch which was purchased new from Provident Jewelers in Naples. The young girl was not interested, curt, quite rude and treated me as though I was someone trying to sell a fake watch. I'm sure that has probably happened before but you are supposed to be an experienced certified jeweler that should be able to see the difference. I was somewhat surprised because I have met the owner, Dan a couple times over the years and he was always very kind.
DO NOT take anything there to sell if you dont have paperwork and receipts! If that is their policy it should obviously be stated clearly on the website, which it is not.
This girl was even so rude that when I asked if they could refer someone, she just laughed and said no, sorry! That surprised me considering they were referred by a friend who is a well known reputable jeweler in Louisville.
Smh You can at least be kind and courteous to encourage future business.
I will definitely tell the referring jewelers to not send anyone else to them.
