Growing up in Wheaton Dick Blick was always my favorite store. I loved the products they sold. The staff always knowledgeable and friendly. I returned to Wheaton and checked the old location. Unfortunately they were gone. This weekend I noticed they only moved a short distance. I was delighted. I had ran out of ink for my fountain pen recently. My love of fountain pens came from this very store. I purchased countless pens from them in my youth; sometimes even riding my bicycle there. Unfortunately, the ink that an associate recommended was not compatible with the pen. If it were any other pen I wouldn’t have cared much. This particular pen was a gift and I had spent many hours with it. The sentimental value was there. I was very upset and knew I needed to return to the store. The assistant manager offered to replace the ink with the correct product. Being extremely upset about the pen being damaged I wanted something more. The policy to make it right was stressful. However the assistant manager did give me a phone number to call. He also talked with me. He seemed to be a very genuine and good guy. It was really hard to be mad at anyone in the store. After waiting for a while in the store the general manager contacted me via telephone. She was nice and approved the store to give me the same style pen at no cost. It’s a pretty big upgrade from the one that was broken. It was never about the cost as much as the loss of a item I cared for deeply. I’m happy that I can return to the store. I’ll continue to support this business time and time again. Thank you for correcting this! It allowed me to forgive the damages to my beloved writing utensil. I highly recommend this business not only for the products they sell but also the people they employ!!! Thanks again 6 stars!!!
I added pictures to show where the threaded portion of the pen cracked and the stains on the nib. I also included a picture of the replacement.

I have been a loyal customer of Blick for over five years, but the experience I had at this location has made me seriously reconsider ever spending my hard-earned money there again.
I brought my siblings to shop the sales because they were excited to go. Instead of feeling welcomed, we were met with constant harassment and an extremely hostile atmosphere. My brothers were treated as if they were doing something wrong simply by being present. Being told “why are you back” when coming back to the store to swing back is absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous In 2026, no one should be made to feel as though they are suspected of stealing or causing a disturbance without cause.
What made the situation even more concerning is that this specific location does not have a single person of color on staff. The lack of diversity, combined with how we were treated, made the experience feel intentional and discriminatory.
It is especially ironic and disappointing that Blick is an Illinois/Chicago-based brand, rooted in one of the most diverse cities in the country, yet POC artists are treated in this manner. A company that profits from artists in diverse communities should reflect that diversity and treat all creatives with respect and dignity.
There was no genuine apology from management, no meaningful effort to resolve the situation, and no real accountability shown toward staff behavior. The store manager confronting me while staff stood behind me only added to the unprofessional and disrespectful nature of the encounter.
As a college artist who has invested thousands of dollars into art supplies over the years, this treatment is unacceptable. Artists deserve to shop in spaces where they feel respected and valued.
Because of this experience, I will be encouraging fellow artists to reconsider where they spend their money. I will also use my platforms to speak about my experiences as well
