- HHHonestyDec 7, 20251.0I had one of the worst retail experiences I’ve ever had at the SKIMS store in Oakbrook Mall. I’ve never been treated this poorly in any retail environment. From the moment I interacted with Melanie, she seemed completely uninterested in helping me. When I explained that I was looking for a long sleeve black cotton top, she tried to sell me a pajama set instead. When I clarified again what I wanted, she rolled her eyes and said she would “get it.” She then asked for my size. When I said “extra small,” she paused, looked me up and down, and then walked away without saying anything. When she returned with the top, she grabbed it from the drawer and tossed it onto the counter before walking off to assist another customer. The whole interaction felt dismissive, passive aggressive, and extremely unprofessional. As someone who works in healthcare and interacts with people all day, I would never treat anyone the way I felt I was treated. Thankfully, Alyssa stepped in and completely turned the experience around. She was kind, attentive, and apologetic, and she helped me with everything I needed. She mentioned they had a large shipment earlier that morning, but even if that was true, it doesn’t excuse the behavior I experienced. SKIMS as a brand promotes body positivity and inclusivity, yet in that moment I felt uncomfortable, unwelcome, and judged. The atmosphere felt tense, and I left feeling worse than when I arrived. I will not be returning to this location unless things change. Alyssa deserves recognition for her professionalism and patience and I truly hope the store addresses what happened. And I praise Alyssa for her mental capacity to be working with Melanie.
