  I’m visiting Chicago from California and stopped into this store after noticing a beautiful purse from the entrance. However, my experience inside was disappointing. Within seconds of walking in—literally just a few steps—I was stopped face-to-face by an employee (a blonde woman, around 5’6–5’7, blue eyes with hair to her chest) who immediately asked, “Can I help you with something?” There was no greeting, no welcome—just an abrupt and somewhat confrontational approach. As someone with a strong management background in retail (including brands like Ann Taylor and Anthropologie), this is not how customer engagement should feel. I stayed calm and let her know I had just walked in, but the interaction already felt off-putting. Unfortunately, it didn’t end there—I felt watched and followed from room to room, with noticeable side glances that made me uncomfortable. It’s a shame because the bag truly caught my eye, and I was genuinely interested in purchasing. However, the overall experience made me decide otherwise. I hope the store can improve its approach to customer service with some proper training. Welcoming guests warmly instead of making them feel scrutinized the moment they enter. J Crew is better than this!

  I was traveling from France to Chicago and discovered this store by chance, as I didn’t know the brand. Virginia M., the woman who helped me, was amazing - charming, very polite and never pushy. She gave honest advice and great judgment, which made the experience really enjoyable. I ended up buying two beautiful pieces. This is exactly how shopping should be. You’re amazing!

  Awesome shopping experience! The staff was amazingly attentive and dug deep to my size. I walked out with my new favorite pair of jeans!

  Surprisingly rude customer service. I was just browsing and picking up a few items to try on when an associate quietly asked if I needed a fitting room. I politely said no, but she muttered “what the—” loud enough for me to hear. Totally unnecessary attitude.

  I have loved J. Crew for years, and it continues to not disappoint. You can find quality pieces that will last a years if not a lifetime which is what we need in this economy. I have even passed things down to my daughter. The prices can be a little pricey but as I said the quality is there so the cost per wear ...its worth it.
