My husband visited the store to purchase a bag I’d been eyeing, but the salesperson convinced him to buy a weird cross-body bag that’s more suited to a teenager than a middle-aged woman. Unfortunately, he waited until our anniversary to give it to me—three days after the 30-day return window had closed. On the fourth day past the deadline, I called the Chicago location where the purchase was made. I was told that since I haven’t spent enough there to qualify as a VIP customer, they wouldn’t exchange the bag—not even for store credit. I even offered to buy a much more expensive purse on the spot, but that didn’t matter to them for someone who shops occasionally. I reiterated that I’d happily accept store credit and purchase an even pricier item, but it fell on deaf ears: it was four days past the return policy, and as a non-“important” client, no exceptions would be made. One thing is certain—after this dismal experience with their customer service, neither I nor my family will ever become one of their valued clients. On top of pushing my husband into a $1,700 bag that makes no sense for an adult woman, they refused to take it back just four days late—likely because they don’t want it cluttering their inventory. Bad advice compounded by appalling customer service. I’ll never shop there again, and I’ve already warned my husband, daughter, and best friend to steer clear as well. This kind of behavior is mind-boggling and wouldn’t happen at their Munich store, the Boca location within Neiman Marcus, or the Palm Beach outpost.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: My husband purchased a bag for me in Paris that developed yellow discoloration inside and out within just eight days of purchase (I wore it for less than five hours and did not spill anything). When I brought it to the Chicago store (9 days after the bag was purchased), the manager, Gustavo, refused an exchange or refund, was dismissive, and treated me with hostility instead of care. Even after corporate overruled him and authorized an exchange the next day (after a lot of unnecessary back and forth), Gustavo continued to be rude and unprofessional when I returned to make the exchange. Gustavo along with the system they have in place for these situations turned what should have been a joyful purchase into a stressful and frustrating situation. For a luxury brand, this level of customer service is unacceptable. Being bullied by a store manager is appalling. I would never buy a bag from this brand again, the quality combined with how they treat you is not worth my time or money.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at the YSL Chicago store. My wife found a handbag she loved. The price tag inside the bag was $1650, and based on that information, we spent nearly 45 minutes in the store deciding and preparing to purchase. However, when we went to checkout, the sales associate suddenly informed us that the bag was actually $2450. At first, we were told the price had changed due to tariffs. Even the manager repeated this explanation. After much back and forth, they finally admitted that the tag inside the bag was from another item and that they had not updated it correctly. This misleading pricing was only revealed at checkout, which was both embarrassing and extremely disappointing. My wife left without the bag she loved, and the entire experience left us feeling disrespected—as if an $800 difference should not matter to us. Considering my mother purchased a $3,200 bag during this same visit, we expected much higher standards of transparency, professionalism, and customer care from a luxury brand like YSL. This is unacceptable service. The mistake was on YSL’s part, not ours, and the right thing would be to honor the sticker price we were shown. I strongly request that YSL take accountability and resolve this issue by matching the price we were quoted in-store. Luxury shopping should feel special, not misleading or dismissive. Unfortunately, this experience was neither.

When arriving at the store my parents and I were told there would be a little wait. After three people exited the store we were still not allowed in. We were clearly discriminated against based on our attire, we were wearing workout clothes and baseball caps. We took our business down the block to another boutique that did not DISCRIMINATE. This is NOT on the security office at the door but the sales associates and manager of the store. Second time this has happened to me too.

Terrible experience. Bought a bag and within 2 months had bubbling and they claim “overstuffing” when barely anything is in it. Will not exchange cause they can’t resell the bag. Well. I hope you wouldn’t resell a bag that’s defective. They only offer to send it in for repairs with an estimated repair of “10 weeks”. Aka. Longer than my spouse has had the damn bag.
