Within moments of entering I was swooped up by a "sales person" with promises of free gifts & discounts when getting a membership "card". She brought me up to the counter & was told they just needed my ID to get the info. needed for my card. After handing over my ID I started hearing other employees talking with customers about what sounded like credit card kind of lingo. This is when I discovered it was a credit card that they were trying to sign me up for. By this time the damage had already been done as they "regrettably" informed be I was denied. I am in the process of trying to restore/build my credit & would have NEVER applied for a credit card from Cabelas!! 1st off I know I wouldn't be approved. 2ndly I also know credit checks can negatively impact your credit score & as I'm trying to improve mine I would have never chanced it. Oh & it did negatively impact mine, it showed up as a hard credit check when I checked my report. Lastly I have been to Cabelas exactly twice in my life counting this trip...I would not want or need a credit card from a store I don't shop at or to be honest, even like. The "sales person" who roped me into this sham was good...knew all the right things to say except for one very important fact...THE TRUTH! I was livid & still am about what she did! I should have demanded to see the manager & filed a complaint against her but I'm sure she was only doing what she was told. Cabelas, their management, should be ashamed of themselves for this kind of bullshit. I'm trying to have the negative impact on my credit reversed as I did not authorize the credit check. If it's not best believe I will be contacting the corporate headquarters. This is dishonest & shady...not 2 very good descriptions of a company's business practices. I will never step foot in another Cabelas & I encourage you to do the same.

Employee was very unhelpful. My husband went in to buy a gun as it was on sale for Christmas, he told the employee the address on his ID is old but had a W2 (a federal document which is what is required to be brought in if the ID address is not up to date). The old address had someone with the same first and last name (different middle initial) in it who can not buy a gun, but we had proof we do not live at that address with that person nor have we for 2 years. They never asked for his social or anything to pull the background check on him, strictly went off the old address on the ID and went against the 2nd ammendment because the man did not want to pull a background check or bother to look at the documents we had to prove he was not that person with the similar name and no longer lived at the same address as that person.

Well, I drove all the way down to Cabellas today and had two hours until the store closed. I WAS going to purchase a crossbow, however I was told that I have to purchase it when a certain employee was working. I was told they couldn't even sell it to me UNLESS this person was here. Really?
I guess I will drive over to Scheels and THEY can take my business. Nice customer service....

Bought a new P226 here. Staff were friendly and the background check took a little longer than normal. The manager thanked me for my patience and everyone was generally very helpful and nice. The store is absolutely gigantic and I can probably spend hours in here just looking at everything. Will be back for sure.
