  Stood at the counter for 15 minutes. Two workers came and went. Neither would acknowledge I was there. Left. Sportsmens warehouse was happy to take my money.

  Got a great deal on a coach gun there. It was annoying having them run a background check that took 20-30 minutes when I have a permit that surpasses said need for check, other than that it's a huge sporting good store with a great selection of equipment.

  Shelly, the “customer service” person at the check out was so extremely rude I swore I’d never return. My granddaughter put her finger in the tip of the wrapping paper by the check out. Shelly said, “get your finger out of there.” First, there’s another way to say that if it was necessary except it WASN’T. All of the wrapping paper was wrapped with holes in the end. I asked her to repeat herself, explaining what I noticed that prompted her to say “they are that way because all kids poke holes in them.” She needs a job away from customers. Extremely rude.

  They run NICS checks on all firearms transfers regardless of the customer having a valid lowa CCL. The lowa license functions as a one-and-done NICS check for 5 years. There is no reason to do this provided the customer has a valid CCL and ID.

  I Saw another person comment on this and it prompted me to write a review, but I had also stopped in the 31st to get some baseball pants when I was shopping and overheard the General manager (wearing a neon orange shirt) talking with that same manager (shorter older lady) mentioned in another review discussing how they want to get rid of certain employees, the general manager even cracking a comment he will do anything to get rid of them as they are useless and I thought that was extremely unprofessional and unusual to hear in a store in ames. When checking out the older lady was mumbling/cussing about how annoying the costumers were being that day and when I asked for a change of price on my items she made it seem like my fault something was priced incorrectly . I would not recommend shopping at Dunhams as it seems to be a toxic workplace and does not value there customers.
