  Visited the Bilston Matalan store today and the first thing I wanted to do when I entered the building was not stroll around the store but to leave as quickly as possible. The store was hotter inside than the hot heat outside and should come with a warning sign for the sick and elderly as they may find this store very uncomfortable. Also it’s unfair to the staff that have to work in this humid and hot environment and who I assumed have complained about their working conditions to the managers/ owners but which seems to have fallen on death ears. Shame on Matalan for putting their electric bill first ,instead of the care and well being of their staff and customers!

  After trying to return a product today without my receipt (requesting them to retrieve my receipt from their system) We knew the date, time, amount and what till. I also had proof on my banking app. We were out right told that this was not possible. Yet unknown to their knowledge i have worked in retail for numerous years a know that this is possible. Therefore i contacted customer services whilst still in store and was told that yes they can retrieve said receipt within the store and that is what we will need to do if we want a refund and not a store credit note. When we started sorting it with the manager we originally spoke to another member of staff was trying to put her 2 pence worth in and get invovled in something that did not concern her and spoke to us in a manner of tone that was not needed. After speaking with the felmale member of staff she went off and did so. No apology in the end nothing. Clearly want to be paid but not actually do their job. Like i said i have worked in retail for almost 12 years and i understand that Christmas is a stressful period, however we are still paid to do a job. We was not rude, yet the tone we got was unacceptable, was not professional at all. So just a heads up to all those who wish to do a return if you have lost your receipt, if you paid by card and know the time you purchased they can retrieve your receipt, they will say they can't because that means the company loses money it's their job to try and get you to give in and just have a credit note and not a monetary refund so they dont lose money. That goes for any retailer they all can do the same i have worked in multiple matalan being one of those. On the upside customer service on the phone were brilliant 👏

  They have some really lovely cloths, adults and children's. They have some nice home wear aswell
