My young daughter selected items believing they were part of a two-for-£12 deal. At the till, the price was around 49p more than expected, so I asked why.
The response was simply, "It's been marked down." When I said I didn't understand how that explained the discrepancy, the same phrase was repeated as though its meaning should have been obvious to me. No additional explanation was offered and no attempt was made to reconcile the price we reasonably expected to pay with the amount being charged. It felt like being stonewalled rather than helped.
The assistant then questioned why 49p mattered. It mattered because my daughter was buying the clothes and had expected to pay a particular amount. Had she been shopping alone with exactly £12, that 49p would have mattered considerably.
I want my daughter to learn that when something is advertised at a particular price, she is entitled to question it if she is charged something different — regardless of whether the discrepancy is 49p or £49. A straightforward explanation would have resolved everything. Instead, we were treated as though asking the question itself was unreasonable.
Very poor customer service. I will avoid the Bridgend store in future.
