I am writing regarding the conduct of the manager, KP, at the TK Maxx Brent Cross store.
During my visit, I had already selected several items to purchase, including watches and jewellery, when my mother urgently needed to use a toilet. She has a medical condition following surgery and takes medication that means she sometimes requires immediate access to a restroom. This was a genuine medical necessity.
I approached a member of staff, who directed me to the store manager, KP. I explained the situation clearly, including my mother's medical need and the urgency. Despite this, KP refused our request.
I have shopped at many TK Maxx stores across central London and have never experienced such a lack of compassion or professionalism. While I understand that stores may have policies regarding customer access to staff toilets, applying those policies without any consideration for a genuine medical condition is unacceptable. A blanket refusal in these circumstances is not only inhumane but may also amount to discrimination against a person with a disability or medical condition.
The distress and physical suffering caused by denying someone access to a toilet during a medical emergency cannot be overstated. I found the manager's attitude dismissive, insensitive, and completely inconsistent with the level of customer service I have come to expect from TK Maxx.
I ask that TK Maxx investigate this incident, review whether the actions of the manager were consistent with your policies and legal obligations, and provide appropriate guidance and training to ensure customers with medical conditions are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect in the future.
I look forward to your response and to learning what steps will be taken to address this matter.
