Spent over £220 at Gallions Reach yesterday evening (17th June), but the trip was completely ruined by a staff member named Deborah. We had a large basket of 17 items and asked to be served at a staffed till instead of self-checkout because we've had issues with security tags being left on in the past. Deborah was hostile from the second she walked over, snapping at us to use self-checkout and making sarcastic comments like "you can feel the items."
We had previously asked about a simple size swap for a gift item without a receipt. We accepted the store policy and dropped it, but Deborah brought a massive chip on her shoulder to the till. When we asked a basic question about gift receipts, she stopped scanning, got in my face, and asked, "Are you trying to be difficult?" The irony is, if I actually wanted to be difficult, I could have made her print individual gift receipts for all 17 items in our basket. Instead, we used common sense and told her not to worry about it just to make her job easier. She completely lost her temper, raised her voice, flashed her badge at me, and wiggled her fingers in my face. When I complained about her lack of common sense, she loudly called me a "thief" in front of the whole shop.
The worst part was when the manager (Zoe) intervened and sent her away. Deborah started shouting back across the shop floor multiple times, "You should be ashamed of yourself, even your wife is ashamed of you!" completely dragging my family into it because my wife was trying to keep the peace for the sake of our kids. Later on, she just stood near the tills sniggering and openly refusing to apologise.
Funny enough, Deborah kept shouting that she’s "never been rude to a customer before," but the way she switched into being completely unhinged so fast tells me this is a regular habit. I’ve since checked the other Google reviews for this store as per the receipt details (Store 344), and it's full of complaints about terrible staff attitudes here, so clearly management are turning a blind eye to it.
The manager Zoe was great—very calm, professional, and apologised profusely—but Deborah has absolutely no business working in customer service. Shocking way to treat a family.
