I understand stores may have policies about drinks, but the way I was spoken to by a member of staff at the front of the store was very disappointing. Her tone was abrupt, bossy, patronising and quite aggressive, which made me feel unwelcome. What made it worse was that there was no polite explanation, no apology and no attempt to offer a simple solution, such as letting me leave it at the front or even pointing me to a bin. I was so taken aback by the way she stopped me and spoke to me, that I said “sorry?” in pure disbelief - to which she repeated herself even more loudly. I’m a grown adult, and I would have happily thrown it away and come back in if I’d been spoken to respectfully. Instead, I walked out and chose to shop elsewhere. Customer service and the way people are spoken to really matters.
