I purchased a firearm from this location at the beginning of March and used it for the first time in early April. Unfortunately, it turned out to be defective—a piece fell out before I could even finish one magazine. I first called the store to ask how to handle the issue. After being placed on hold for about 20 minutes when transferred to the firearms department, I called back and spoke with another employee. I explained the situation, and she told me that I could return the firearm within 60 days due to it being defective. I understand that mistakes can happen, especially if someone isn’t in that specific department, so I don’t place blame on her. The issue came when I visited the store yesterday. I stopped at the front, as expected, to explain why I had the firearm with me. Instead of a straightforward explanation, I was met with a dismissive and somewhat confrontational response: I was told they don’t do returns on firearms and asked if I needed to be shown where I “signed off” on that agreement. This felt unnecessary, especially since I wasn’t arguing or being difficult—I simply explained what I had been told over the phone. A more professional response—such as calmly explaining their policy and offering to send the firearm to the manufacturer for repair—would have been more than sufficient. Instead, the interaction felt escalated from the start. I was also asked who I had spoken to on the phone, which isn’t something most customers think to document during a basic inquiry. I understand store policies and respect them. My concern is with how the situation was handled. Customers shouldn’t feel like they have to de-escalate a conversation when they’re simply trying to resolve an issue. Some additional customer service training could go a long way in improving interactions like this. Also, after being taken back to the firearms section, another staff member asked what was going on. The main employee I was working with responded, “a piece fell out while she was shooting is what she said.” I clarified, “because that’s what happened.” The wording came across as if my explanation was being questioned. I have purchased multiple firearms from Academy in the past, but based on how this experience was handled from start to finish, this will likely be my last.

Sue in the shoe department was so incredibly helpful and patient with my family. She helped us find a great pair of shoes and was really knowledgeable about the department!

Worst experience. Just had surgery needed help walked around for 20 minutes to get help and I find 2 workers playing on the floor in the shore department didn't know they worked there. So I say does anybody fing work here he says i do well after that, it got worse nobody knew where anything was they finally found the items marked on sale get to register not in sale. So go back with the person and find the ones I need well I got the wrong size during the aggravation compression shorts I needed after lymphoma surgery. I tried to exchange for the right size and I got to have a receipt. Ihave seizures i miss placed it....So now I'm stuck with 200$ worth of shorts that I need and can't wear. The whole thing was ridiculous. I will not be returning. Sorry but not sorry.

Looking for a soccer trainer (it tethers the ball so you can practice kicking). There were several employees stocking equipment, and apparently too busy to ask me if I needed help. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I checked out Amazon. It'll be here tomorrow along with a new ball.
