This is a beautiful store, usually well-stocked with art materials including professional level ones from several well-known manufacturers. Most employees are friendly and helpful but not necessarily artists who can give good recommendations. The big “but” is their deceptive pricing strategies. Some products have multiple prices on products. Any kind of dual pricing requires transparency in notifying consumers in order to be legal. One price on the item, one price on top of the shelf tag and another UNDER it is not my idea of transparent. And the 20% off coupons they send out periodically are a joke. Try to redeem one of these at the register and they'll tell you it doesn't count because those items are already "on sale". Technically everything in the store is for sale but "on sale" usually means at a reduced price. Yes, merchants can legitimately hold some types of products in reserve if they notify the customers. There was no consumer alert posted in the store, mentioned in a flyer, posted on the shelf or even in the fine print on the coupon for specific products. So the customer has no idea which ones are already on sale. No one likes to feel cheated, especially since Blick’s prices aren’t necessarily the lowest ones around on identical products. This has happened to me so often here that I even asked a store manager before going to the register. His answer was a cagey, “Let’s see what comes up at the register.” Sure enough, the 20% off coupon, which sometimes would have only been good for 10% additional off, didn’t count for anything. I was so mad I left the merchandise at the counter. A long drive for nothing and I prefer to support local merchants rather than order online. I won’t go back until they return to their old straightforward 10% off any time like they used to have. Maybe they’ll even adopt the Jerry’s idea of 10% off any time with occasional days of 20-30% off targeted products or the whole store. That would make the long drive worth it and make sure I didn’t ditch them for a different online retailer.
