If I could give zero stars I would. This company is the cheapest you’ll find for your breathalyzer but it’s for a reason. The devices are faulty. Violate you for NO reason simply just because there’s a problem with your car battery etc. I’ve TURNED OFF MY CAR and gone into stores to shop and come back to a violation when the device isn’t supposed to randomly test you when the ignition is off. and then with the violation that WASNT YOUR FAULT you have to go and get the device serviced for 30$ at the service center and pay $90 for the violation fee. Then when you call smart start and tell them the device is glitching and violated you, they tell you to go pay for it and then dispute it so they can refund you. BUT WHEN YOU DISPUTE IT THEY ALWAYS SAY YOUR REASON IS NOT VALID and don’t refund you. It’s their way of making money. And if you get a violation you have X amount of hours to get it serviced and if you can’t you have to TOW YOUR CAR to the one and only service center they have that closes during working hours. So if you work and your device is counting down you have to leave work (lose money) to go pay for the violation THAT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT. I wouldn’t recommend this company for anything. I’ve had 3 faulty violations because of device issues and they still haven’t refunded me. MIND YOU. The device comes with a camera so they can see if your the one blowing into it but all of a sudden when you tell them to check the camera to prove the violation was a device issue and not your fault they’re blind and can’t see that. I called multiple places trying to find the cheapest way to pay for a breathalyzer prior to enrolling with smart start and many other places told me you pay for quality and theyre right. I wish I would’ve went with another company. Even though they’re prices were more expensive I’m sure I wouldn’t be paying as much as I am now with smart start. Your paying maybe 100$ a month with smart start but as they violate you every month because of the device being faulty you end up paying double. It’s been 5 months with this company and I end up paying about 300$ - 400$ every single month. If your thinking about it, don’t do it. Choose a company that makes you pay for quality. I have emails and receipts to prove this. Both of these incidents I included photos for sum up to smart start stating they will not provide a refund. After telling me to dispute it. The first one was when I went into a store, no random test pending turned off my car and took my keys and returned to a violation because they initiated a test while I was shopping. The second one was because my car was in the mechanic shop for 4 days which prevented me from making my service appointment so I got charged a missed appointment fee even though I notified them my car was being serviced and was not drivable and I was told it’s ok to just pay for the violation and dispute it, I got charged a violation fee on top of that, a service fee to service the device, and I had to pay for an unblock code. All of that together cost me about 400$ on TOP of what I pay (100$ a month). And I called them prior to my car being out in the shop to notify them but they always say the same thing. “Pay it and dispute it we will refund you” and never do. WORST COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH. THEYRE SCAMMERS AND VIOLATE FOR REASONS YOU CANT CONTROL. DO NOT ISE SMART START.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
