I am extremely disappointed with how the staff and management at this Citi Trends location handled a serious incident involving my mother.
My mother, who is 70 years old, was injured due to unsafe store displays and began bleeding heavily. She immediately asked for help, but the employee she approached was dismissive, rude, and completely ignorant of proper procedures for assisting an injured customer. There was no urgency, no compassion, and no clear knowledge of how to access or use a first aid kit. Additionally, there was no proper PPE displayed or used while she was actively bleeding.
Instead of assisting her, staff members made highly inappropriate and offensive accusations, implying that my mother was intoxicated. This was completely false, disrespectful, and traumatizing—especially given her age and the fact that she was injured and scared.
The situation escalated unnecessarily due to staff behavior. They accused my mother of “threatening” them, yet when asked what threat was made, no one could provide any explanation or evidence. They repeatedly made this claim without substantiation, which only added to the distress and confusion. In addition, I was overpowered and outnumbered by the staff, Which made My mother feel very helpless. Mind you it was two female staff workers, and a male which happens to be one of their boyfriends. I was informed this through the district manager that the mail that worked there was not an employee, but one of their boyfriends. The gentleman made me feel helpless and was approaching me in a very standoffish way, which made My mother felt like she was in danger.
Because of the way this incident was mishandled, my mother has since filed a police report against the associates involved, including management, for their failure to properly respond and de-escalate the situation. What could have been handled calmly and professionally was instead met with hostility, accusations, and a complete lack of customer care.
This experience was frightening and deeply upsetting for my mother. A retail store should be able to handle emergencies with professionalism, basic first aid knowledge, and respect—especially when dealing with elderly customers. Unfortunately, this location failed in all of those areas.
I strongly urge Citi Trends corporate to investigate this location, retrain staff on emergency response and customer safety, and ensure that incidents like this never happen again.
