Place was, AGAIN, fine. Appt @ 10 am delayed as part had not arrived overnight Sat. 11/8, probably due to UPS issue. By the time everything was installed around 3:45 pm, and threshold had been lowered to its lowest point, I was still unable to successfully do the breaths. Companion was successful, but during the ride home, device wanted a retest which I tried several times. He got it restarted. After another 7 hrs., we got home at 5 pm. I HAVE ADVANCED COPD AND LIVE ALONE. I WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE BREATH WHEN I WAS ARRESTED. MY LAWYER AND I HAVE BOTH WRITTEN, CALLED, EMAILED CT DMEV WITH ALL THEIR REQURIED MEDICAL FORMS....SIGNED BY MY DOCTOR....MEANWHILE, CAR SITS IN MY GARAGE KUNABLE TO STRAT...DEVICE MAY LOSE POWER...I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO COMPLY INCLUDING STARTING THE MANDATORY CLASS 11/11. ALL WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM CT IS THEIR LETTER SAYING BRING THELETTER TO THEINSTALLATION SO THEY LOWER THE THRESHOLD!!!!! DONE!!!! APPARENTLY, CT STATE STATUTE INDICATES THAT THIS DEVICE MUST BE INSTALLED, CALIBRATED EVERY 28 DAYS ETC. BUT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THE CAR TO THE CALIBRATION SITE AND OR DRIVE TO RI WHERE I AM TRYING TO MOVE INTO AN ASSISTED LIVING UNIT. DESPERATE FOR HELP!!!!!! SUSAN BELCHER

The representative was excellent. However, the accounting department was off today where the representative was not able to obtain a satisfactory answer to my question. He did direct me to phone in Monday providing me with a direct line.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
