Our founder Ashok Ramchandani “Ram” as he was known by his customers who became friends always knew that he was made for the clothing business. A patient man who would go out his way to help a perfect stranger. He started out traveling from Hong Kong to the United States, going up and down the Northeast selling custom made clothing. He would spend three months at a time and travel from Maine to Georgia. Setting up in hotels with customers coming in by appointment to take care of their clothing needs.
Since we opened our first store in Waterbury CT in the mid seventies. Ramani’s has been focused on providing well tailored clothing to the discerning customers of our communities, starting with strictly custom made clothing from Hong Kong. At the time this was one of the biggest bargains in the menswear industry. To this day we still do custom made shirts and suits from Hong Kong. A customer can come in with an image of what he would like and we can make it just the way he imagined, right down to the exact distance between the stripes in his suit, or what color Bemberg lining he would like inside his suit.
As our menswear business grew we also changed to carrying more and more “ready made” clothing. Clothing that is pre made and then tailored to fit the body. Today ninety percent of our business is ready to wear clothing. There is such a wide variety of styles, fabrics, and sizes available today that most customers find what they are looking for in our vast inventories.

They are like flawless, highest quality luxurious textiles, equally GREAT for everyday wear and special occasions. At Ramani’s, they take the time to sit down with you and figure out every detail of the process- Fabric swatches, the precise fit you want, design options, etc. CRAFTSMANSHIP at the highest level. Steve listens carefully to your preferences, makes recommendations, and then your visions they become reality. Every small detail of each suit commands attention: carefully structured shoulders, hand made button holes, pick stitching, clean lines. - MMMiriam McphersonSep 17, 20251.0I had a terrible experience at Rams 579 Wolcott st Waterbury Connecticut The do not treat all thair customers customers the same I went to have clothes hem and taken in the owner said I had to pay 50% of the total price while waiting for a ride a new customers came in i notice the owner didn't ask for a 50% deposit of the total price then the TAILOR didn't hem my clothes the length I wanted came back the next day she was RUDE with a attitude you think I would ask her for her first born I was changed 28.50 and then 24.50 for a linen pencil skirt they took my money and didn't do what I ask some of clothes she did nothing to I wonder what lies they'll say when I get in touch with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU! The people at the better Business Bureau are trained to knows when people are liers so the can't fool them i hope they conscious of the OWNER and TAILOR (SO CALLED) Keep them up at NIGHT DENEARD NOEL ! REPORT RAMS TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ! So they'll know they can't take advantage of CERTAIN PEOPLE ! !
