This device is dangerous and very much against the laws to not text while you're driving. The Retest alarm (that scares me to death while driving) goes off in 3 miles promoting a driving hazard to pull off and retest. I hate this thing. Today, I went early to recalibrate my device due June 2 and my car WOULDN'T START. Message read on the device was "Unit not serviced in time" - what is up with that? Phone support call from foreign ppl said from the script...need to call the towing number xxx.xxx.xxxx. This device is as bad as it gets and more and makes no sense when it goes off for example > getting the intox message to " wait for warmer weather" . This is beyond comprehensible, it's a poor device that costs you because they can. Each month you are charged to recalibrate your device by bringing it to the service station. If you get a violation or "sensing" message on the device (or gosh it detected my morning coffee ??) DMV will extend your usage per month and charge you. I get 2 miles at best before the alarm goes off. Stuck in traffic with both side around me, embarrassing especially when the nozzle drops off and you can't reach it and the alarm escalates to full sound. I wouldn't dream of taking this device on the highway. ALARM to all folks: don't drive at 65 miles per hour, try to read the device, disengage your hands, blow when it says to blow while your eyes and hands are off the road and hope you get a PASSED message while you're driving. ITS A TRUE HAZARDESS DRIVING DEVICE AND EXPENSIVE.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150.
