Be very careful buying sports cards from scheels, went to buy one of the PSA graded boxes and at first they couldn’t even find any. Ended up being stashed under one of their display cases and all opened up and the seal was broken on every box. Looks like one of the employees took a peek before they got to the floor.

Definitely avoid Scheels when shopping for footwear. Despite having walls of shoes to choose from, they have maybe 1 or 2 sizes of every shoe in stock. After asking about 6 different pairs of shoes, we left and found the same exact shoes at Famous Footwear with the sizes we needed (for kids).

I specifically went to Scheels because I like their staff, product selection and they match internet pricing (from major retailers). However, I won't be shopping there again because they added a 4.5% PIF at checkout to my purchase which was in ADDITION to local and state tax. I could have ordered the product direct from the manufacturer, got free shipping, and saved myself the two hour drive!

Scheels in Johnstown is one of those places where you can feel the difference the moment you’re inside. Yeah, prices can run higher—but the quality, selection, and overall experience back it up. The firearms and ammunition section is solid, but what surprised me is how much this store works for everyone, not just one type of shopper.
It’s genuinely family-oriented: a walk-through aquarium overhead, a Ferris wheel ride for a buck, and plenty to keep kids engaged without the place feeling chaotic. The store is clean, well laid out, and busy without feeling disorganized.
What really separates this location is the staff. Every employee I interacted with was knowledgeable, well-connected, and confident in their department. You can tell they’re trained well and actually valued—no one feels checked out or rushed. That matters.
Bottom line: it’s not just a store, it’s an experience. Even with higher prices, it’s worth it for the service, selection, and atmosphere. This place stands out.
