- RRRocky RoadFeb 7, 20261.0John (middle aged, 5'4, beard with glasses) - Fragile ego escalated a non-issue/simple exchange. Brett, the store manager, raised his voice and remained confrontational throughout the interaction rather than doing what leadership should do — listen, assess, and work toward understanding. I came in expecting a routine exchange and instead encountered an immediate wall of defensiveness from both the supervisor, John, and the store manager, Brett. John started in a condescending tone, said the missing outer box meant an exchange wouldn’t happen, and repeatedly suggested the glasses had been worn and damaged. Brett then took over and pointed to what he claimed was a scratch before anyone tried the most basic step of cleaning the lens. I asked them to wipe it with solution before accusing me. Instead, the questioning continued and the situation felt more like an interrogation than customer service. John stood nearby staring at me and at times laughing, while both he and Brett spoke in a way that felt openly dismissive. With two members of management aligned against me, it was clear my explanation didn’t matter. I told Brett his approach felt aggressive. John immediately responded that I was the aggressive one, and Brett denied being confrontational. Other customers in the store appeared visibly uncomfortable watching it unfold. Only after the lens was finally wiped did it become clear the mark was a smudge. Even after being proven wrong, the tone never reset. I left surprised at how quickly management chose blame over a simple verification that would have prevented the entire incident.
