It's Blick. Who doesn't love it? This is a new location and the stars off are due to the growing pains. The space is far bigger than the inventory at the moment, so there is a large amount of messily blocked off territory toward the back. It feels like shopping in a pop-up, but without that sense of spontaneity and hopes of amazing deals. Finding the bathroom literally requires a guide. The thing about Blick is that the established stores build up a patina of hand drawn sketches and signage, arrows pointing to nooks, passageways, and interesting collections of tools and supplies. There's a sense that you are on an artsy adventure. This store is still sterile. With room to increase their offerings to include more of what they sell online, I hope the owners will expand into the space soon. In particular, I'd love to see an entire aisle of glazes and tools for ceramic artists. There are a lot of potters in San Diego county, and this store is one of only 3 commercial spaces to buy supplies in the area. Online, Blick has some of the best glaze pricing I've seen, but shipping is very slow, often results in damage, and shipping is at times quite expensive, but then sometimes free. I know a lot of us would love popping into your store instead. This location has a large free parking lot, yay! The parking stalls are very small and the street entrance nearest the store drops you right into a traffic area that gets a bit jammed up. So have patience and be safe while maneuvering.
