Been buying pants from AE for years and im went to the store to make a return before 30 days and store manager wouldn't accept return even tho the past were not used with tags. Horrible customer service and I will never buy from AE again. Its not worth it to buy cheap pants and get cheap service

Fraudulent return policy. First time shopping here and didn’t know what their policy was - bought a pair of jeans that ended up becoming way too loose after a couple hours so I tried to return them the next day (with the tags/receipt in hand). Manager working on 1/18/2026 did absolutely nothing except be condescending and literally POINT out the little piece of paper by the register that states the return policy & say “it’s on the back of the receipt” and “they should have told you when you bought them”. No one told me. I’m not looking at the pieces of paper around your registers. She refused to give me her name (classic), and told me to call customer service. They were somehow less helpful and said they could only assist with online orders and to handle it in store. Long story short, customer service is non-existent at this store and I’d avoid shopping here at all costs.

CAVEAT EMPTOR: Beware if you value your money and customer service. Also note: their return policy has changed significantly.
I placed a bulk order online for in-store pickup since most of my sizes aren’t available in-store. While most items arrived, five never shipped. After three weeks, I called customer service—they admitted the items were lost in transit and offered a refund, but only after a 15-day cancellation process.
Here’s the catch: AEO only allows 30 days for returns. Because I hadn’t received my full order, I couldn't return items that didn’t fit. (Low-key Feels a bit like a tactic to block returns.) I attempted to return items at three different stores, all of which declined.
There was frustrating back-and-forth between the store and customer service, each blaming the other for handling cancellations. Meanwhile, the return window was closing. To make things worse, three items were missing from the pickup order and no one acknowledged the issue or helped.
This used to be one of my favorite places to shop, but after this experience—and reading similar reviews—I’ll be much more cautious going forward. What a shame.
