i used to come here so much but the new staff just isn’t it. no greeting or anything they just stare at you then keep talking to each other 😭 i get it, i’m a salesperson too but dang. plus the price markups just don’t make it worth visiting anymore

Today was my first time selling at Plato’s Closet and I wanted to leave an honest, balanced review after reading a lot of really negative ones.
I brought two tote bins full of items of all seasons and a wide variety of sizes (women’s clothes from US sizes 2-16) and brands, including shoes and some accessories. The cashiers were friendly, greeted me and had me check in, which took less than 2 minutes. They told me it would be about a 40 minute wait since there were other people ahead of me. I ran some errands and got a text almost exactly 40 minutes later.
I was definitely surprised to see which items they chose to purchase and which ones didn’t make the cut! Good condition athletic wear brands (Champion, Vans, Lululemon, adidas) were not purchased. I sold them some denim pants from American Vintage (Target brand), Levi’s, Zara, pull&bear, and a few items from Shein.
They asked if I wanted to go through all of what they purchased, but I had a quick look saying, “I trust you!” because I was in a bit of a rush. (I would recommend going through your stuff just to make sure everything is accounted for if you have a lot of items, which I will do next time.)
Overall the experience was straightforward and painless. I had low expectations going in so I was pleasantly surprised by how much they ended up buying. Was it less than half of what I brought? Yes. BUT I got more money than I would if I had simply given it away, less headache than dealing with marketplace, and I can hold on to some of it and try again when the weather changes. Or just donate it!
I will definitely be back the next time I do a closet clear out. I would suggest setting your sights low and not being personally offended if they don’t accept your items, since after all, you’re also getting rid of them!

They always have a good selection here and price things very fairly. If I need an outfit for something and don’t know what I want to wear I can go here and it always just clicks into place.
The staff are always pleasant with everyone, and are all very knowledgeable if you have questions.
I’m sure some would disagree because we all want as much money as possible, but they give you a fair price when you bring your clothes in in a way that they can still sell it at an affordable price, but you get a sufficient amount yourself. They’re also very strict with what they will and won’t accept when you sell to them which makes me feel so much more confident when I go in as a buyer that what I’m purchasing is in fair condition.

Went there to sell pants, come to find out how very picky they are. They only bought 2 pairs and returned the rest of them in a big mess, didn't appreciate that at all, I bought them in all neatly folded, it would have been nice if they gave them back the same way. I also found thm to be expensive.
