Terrible Customer Service
I tried to return an item I purchased just last week. The tags were still attached, and it had never been worn, I brought it back exactly as it was packaged.
The staff treated me as if I was doing something wrong and repeatedly questioned why I was there. The return process itself was also very poor. I was not given a return receipt, and when I asked how I could confirm the return was completed properly, I was simply told that the information was “logged in the system.”
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. The quality of the product was disappointing, and the customer service was even worse. I will not be purchasing from Alo again.
Store looks empty and whatever is there is ridiculously overpriced. My daughter and I were greeted in a rather unfriendly manner by a man who seemed to size us up from head to toe. We were then followed around closely by a woman covered with heavy makeup, as if we were thieves. Guess what, we're not thieves. Very uncomfortable. The store was empty on a Saturday afternoon, no wonder! We quickly walked out and the man gave us another of these looks as if we are not worthy of a high-end store. Maybe the store needs to fire all these folks and hire enthusiastic university students who would love a part-time job.
I visited the Alo Bloor this afternoon to try on a pair of slippers, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing.
The Asian female associate who assisted me (I believe she may have been Korean) seemed unfriendly throughout the entire interaction. She did not fully understand my requests, brought me the wrong shoes, and even took away a pair I was still considering without asking. When I requested additional sizes, both her tone and facial expressions came across as impatient and dismissive.
I was struggling between colors and sizing because this particular slipper style fits inconsistently. During the fitting process, she placed shoe boxes on the armrest of the chair where they were unstable and they ended up falling onto me and my bag.
At one point I seriously considered leaving and going to the Eaton Centre location instead. However, I still decided to purchase the shoes because I reminded myself that she may simply be someone working hard to support her family. That said, customers should not be treated this way.
I’ve been a loyal Alo customer for a long time, so receiving this kind of service at one of their flagship Toronto locations was genuinely upsetting. I hope management can improve employee training and customer service supervision moving forward.
I hoped the first negative experience I had was an isolated one. Now upon my third, I believe it’s a pattern. This is now my third negative experience at the Bloor location, which is unfortunate because the Eaton Centre staff are always significantly more professional and welcoming.
Today I was standing to the side waiting for an employee who was already helping me find my size, when another employee, blonde haired, suddenly came forward and started signaling for me to move. I was not blocking anyone, nor standing in the walkway, nor causing any issue or blockage whatsoever. Otherwise I would have quietly moved and embarrassingly so.
What made the interaction especially rude was that she kept repeating herself out loud multiple times in an unnecessarily rude tone, as if I couldn’t hear or understand her the first time. This was incredibly condescending and quite embarrassing considering there were other customers around. I look much younger than my age due to my petite frame, and I cannot help but feel her reaction was either triggered due to an ageist bias, racism, or just pure disdain in her own life that day. I don’t want to assume the worst, but it’s hard not to. If management were to check the footage from today, they’ll clearly see her exaggerated hand gestures, toward me as though I don’t speak the language.
For a brand that considers themselves luxury, customers should not be made to feel publicly singled out or talked down to while simply shopping in-store. The Bloor location seriously needs to work on professionalism and customer service. Honestly, the only reason I continued shopping at this location was because it was convenient given that I live in Yorkville, otherwise I would much rather go to Eaton Centre. After today’s experience, I will not be returning.
I had such a wonderful experience at Alo, and I feel compelled to share it - especially because I know there are quite a few negative reviews out there.
I was assisted by Elena, and she truly made all the difference. From the moment I walked in, she was incredibly attentive, patient, and genuinely kind. I had a lot of questions and was quite indecisive about my purchase, but Elena never once made me feel rushed or pressured. Instead, she took the time to understand what I was looking for, offered thoughtful suggestions, and guided me through different options with great care.
What stood out the most was her patience and professionalism. Even when I went back and forth multiple times, she remained calm, supportive, and consistently helpful. It’s rare to meet someone who combines product knowledge with such a warm and considerate attitude.
To be honest, I was a bit hesitant before visiting because of the negative reviews I had read. However, after meeting Elena, my perspective completely changed. I truly believe that anyone who has the chance to be helped by her would walk away with a very different impression.
Alo is incredibly lucky to have someone like Elena on their team. She represents the kind of customer service that builds trust and leaves a lasting positive impression. Thank you, Elena, for making my Alo-xperience so pleasant and memorable. I will definitely be coming back because of you.
