  Very disappointing experience at Plato’s Closet Pickering. I brought in a bag of excellent-condition business-casual pants and other items from recognizable brands. After looking through everything for approximately 20 minutes, I was told they could not accept a single item because the styles were considered “mature,” “old,” or “too formal.” The feedback felt dismissive and highlighted how narrowly this location appears to define acceptable fashion. Their buying preferences seem heavily geared toward current Gen Z trends, leaving little room for quality clothing suited to millennials, working professionals, or anyone whose wardrobe extends beyond hoodies, sneakers, and ultra-casual trends. Calling well-kept business-casual clothing “old” is not constructive feedback—it simply reflects a limited target market. I then asked whether the rejected clothing could be donated to the Epilepsy Foundation, as was previously offered, and was told they had stopped providing that option. The moral of the story: unless your wardrobe caters specifically to a very young and narrow demographic, you may be wasting your time bringing clothes here. I would rather donate my beautiful, well-maintained clothing directly to a charity than support a business that makes customers feel judged for having a more polished or mature style.

  I’ve been coming here for years and the quality of clothing they sell continues to go down. Holes, pilling, tears, and discoloration in 80% of the items I looked at . I’ve sold here also, and that experience had gotten worse over the years. It’s upsetting to not be able to sell clothing here because it was manufactured in a previous year but to shop and not only find old clothes - but for those clothes to also be ripped and damaged.

  Plato's Closet, Pickering is an amazing location. It is very clean and organized and very big. The owner and staff are very kind and helpful. They very carefully hand pick the best items to offer their customers the best quality and most recent styles. I will definitely be going back.
