  Newly opened, great atmosphere and service. Guy working there was really helpful. I usually drive out of town to get anything decent. But won’t be needing to anymore

  If you’ve spent enough time around Muskoka, you’ve probably heard of Hayden. Most people know him as the guy who works at the local cannabis store. Friendly. Knowledgeable. The kind of person who remembers your name, what strain you bought three months ago, and somehow always recommends exactly what you’re looking for before you’ve finished asking. before you’ve finished asking. “Best customer service in town,” people say. And they’re right. At least, that’s what makes the story so strange. It started with small things. Customers would swear Hayden greeted them before they even walked through the door. Not unusual at first. Maybe he saw them through the window. Except some people parked behind the building. Others arrived during snowstorms when visibility was nearly zero. Yet somehow, as soon as they entered, Hayden would smile and say: “Hey Mark. Back for the indica?” Or: “Welcome back, Sarah. How’d those gummies work out?” Even when it had been years. People laughed it off. Hayden just had a great memory. That’s what everyone assumed. Then came the security footage. One winter evening, the store manager reviewed recordings after a routine alarm issue. The footage showed Hayden standing behind the counter, stocking products. The front door opened. A customer entered. Before the customer’s face was even visible, before the camera angle could identify them, Hayden looked up and spoke. The audio wasn’t great, but the manager could make out the words: “Good evening, Trevor.” The customer rounded the corner. It was Trevor. The manager rewound the footage. Again. Again. Again. There was no way Hayden could have known. No reflection. No vehicle visible. Nothing. When asked about it the next day, Hayden simply laughed. “Lucky guess.” The manager accepted the explanation. At first. Then the dreams began. Customers reported identical experiences. Nothing terrifying. Just odd. They’d dream they were standing in the store after closing. The lights would be off. The shelves empty. The cash registers silent. Hayden would be there. Perfectly still. Waiting. Then he’d smile and ask the same question every time. “What are you really looking for?” People would wake up uneasy but forget about it by morning. Until they returned to the store. Because when they walked through the doors… Hayden would greet them with those exact words. Every. Single. Time. Some claimed it was coincidence. Others stopped talking about it entirely. The weirdest account came from a cottage owner north of town. He arrived at the store shortly before closing. Hayden served him as usual. Friendly. Professional. Helpful. The customer drove straight back to his cottage. Forty-five minutes away. When he arrived, he noticed footprints leading through fresh snow to his front porch. One set. Size twelve boots. The same size Hayden wore at work. At the door sat a handwritten note. “Hope the pre-rolls work out. Have a great night.” No signature. No explanation. Just neat handwriting. The customer never returned to tell the story publicly. But friends insist it happened. Today, Hayden still works in Muskoka. Still remembers everyone’s name. Still gives excellent recommendations. Still provides the kind of customer service most businesses wish they could clone. And maybe that’s the unsettling part. Because nobody has ever seen Hayden arrive for work. Nobody has ever seen him leave. The cameras only show him already there. Standing behind the counter. Smiling. Waiting. As if he’s been expecting you all along.
