I’ve been coming to this location for roughly two years and have never had an issue before this. The staff are normally friendly and welcoming, which is why my experience on August 4th stood out so much.
I arrived around 11:50 p.m., 10 minutes before closing. I immediately apologized for cutting it close and asked Sehajpreet K. for a sativa pre-roll from Thumbs Up or Double Dutchie. I was told there were no sativas left, only indica, because everything else had already been put in the back.
I explained I only wanted sativa and asked if there was really nothing available considering the store was still open. I could see the last product cart being put away with sativa products still on it, so I asked why I couldn’t purchase one of those. After initially refusing, she offered me one Jean Guy pre-roll, a lower THC option than what I wanted, and said that was the only one she could give me.
I asked if Thumbs Up or Double Dutchie would be available the next morning. She said yes, so naturally I asked why I couldn’t purchase one now if it was physically in the store and the store was still open.
I said I’d take the Jean Guy but would return the next morning to speak with a supervisor because I was dissatisfied with the experience. She responded, “That’s fine,” in what came across to me as a condescending manner.
She then asked for my ID. I placed it on the glass counter as I normally would and she suddenly said, “No, I’m not taking that disrespect.” Confused, I asked what I had done and explained that she asked for my ID and I simply placed it down. I even pointed out that the cameras could verify exactly what happened. Her response was essentially, “No, I’m not hearing it.” She then ignored me, refused to continue serving me and served the next customer instead.
After she finished serving him, I asked that customer if I could see his receipt and take a picture specifically to get her name. At that point, after being refused service and ignored, I didn’t believe she would give me her name if I asked directly. He agreed. His receipt identified her as Sehajpreet K. and showed his transaction at 11:53 p.m. To be clear, the receipt pictured is his, not mine.
I then asked the other employee to please complete my purchase. I said I wasn’t leaving without being served while the store was still open and that I would call the police if necessary regarding being refused service. I also said that if getting everything put away and going home was the priority, refusing service and escalating the situation would only result in everyone leaving later. This was said after I had already been refused and ignored, not when I entered the store.
The other employee ultimately served me the Jean Guy around 11:57 p.m., still before midnight.
I returned the next day and spoke with the manager on duty. After explaining everything, I was advised this was not the first incident involving Sehajpreet K. and was encouraged to document my experience in a Google review.
I want to emphasize that this is not a reflection of the location as a whole. I’ve been coming here for roughly two years because the other employees have consistently been great.
I understand wanting to complete closing duties early, but if a business is open until midnight, customers arriving before midnight should still have reasonable access to available products and be treated respectfully.
That positive environment is worth protecting for the great employees, loyal customers and long-term success of the store. I hope management addresses this so one employee’s conduct doesn’t take away from what has otherwise been a genuinely great location for me.
